Family Lineage

Suzaku was the son of Japan's last Prime Minister, Genbu Kururugi. Lelouch and Nunnally came to live with them after their banishment from Britannia. After a slightly rocky start, the two boys became best friends. They lost touch after Japan was invaded by Britannia. Not long after, Suzaku killed his father in a heated argument over the Prime Minister's desire to fight the Britannian Army to the bitter end. Genbu's death was covered up as a suicide sparing Suzaku from any repercussions. However, the guilt continues to haunt him.

Present Day

When the series begins, seven years later, Suzaku carries the rank of honorary Britannian soldier. Soon, he became the pilot of the experimental Knightmare Frame, Lancelot, where his skills proved exceptional.  Unfortunately,  as a Japanese, Suzaku was not openly accepted, and when Prince Clovis was murdered, he became the accused scapegoat. Luckily, Zero (a.k.a. Lelouch) came forward as the killer, and Suzaku was released.

After the Clovis incident, Suzaku met Princess Euphemia. The two shared many beliefs making for a very strong bond between them. When Euphemia is told that she must chose a personal Knight, she selects Suzaku to fulfill that roll. After her tragic death at the hands of Zero, Suzaku's normally good-natured personality turns to one filled with hatred for the man who killed his beloved Euphie. Imagine the hurt and disappointment he feels after discovering that his best friend, Lelouch, is Zero! At the end of Season I, the two best friends face-off in one of the most exciting cliffhangers ever!

In the second season, Suzaku continues to grow in ranks of the Britannian Military by becoming one of the Knights of the Round, the most powerful order of warriors in the Britannian Empire. It was his reward for capturing Zero.

There are many unexpected twists in Code Geass and nothing is more unexpected than Suzaku's ultimate fate. As a hint, just remember the old saying….."What goes around….comes around…."
