REBIRTH

Ryuk sits blankly overlooking Shinigami world. Similarly, Light sits in his classroom looking equally as bored. "Day after day....," they think, as if joined in thought, "it's the same ol' thing. This world is rotten!"

The next monotonous day, Light sits bored in his classroom once again, but this time he spots a notebook fall from the sky. When classes are over, he seeks out the book. "Death Note" is its title, and it comes with specific instructions. "How ridiculous," Light thinks at first, but somehow, he is drawn to it.

In the privacy of his room, Light reads the instructions:

This note will not take effect unless the writer has the person's face in their mind when writing his or her name. Therefore, people sharing the same name will not be affected.

If the cause of death is written within 40 seconds of writing the person's name, it will happen. If the cause of death is not specified, the person will simply die of a heart attack.

After writing the cause of death, details of the death should be written in the next 6 minutes and 40 seconds. (Light assumes this to mean the person shall die peacefully or they are made to suffer...)

“How stupid,” Light thinks, but he decides to try it out. It so happens the news is broadcasting a criminal event currently taking place. A man, who had killed/wounded 6 people, has now barricaded himself in a nursery school with eight hostages including little children. The man is unemployed, 42 year-old, Kurou Otoharada. Light writes his name in the notebook as the TV is displaying his mug shot. Seconds pass and Light is sure this was all a hoax. Suddenly, they announce a breaking development in the hostage situation. To Light's shock and surprise the man had....(you guessed it) suddenly collapsed from a heart attack.

That evening in prep class, Light convinces himself that more proof is needed. He believes it should be another criminal, but not one too major.

After class, a group of motorcyclists are assaulting a young woman. Light knows the name of one since "the jerk" proudly shouted it out along with his nickname, Shibuimaru Takuo or Shibutaku for short. Light watches them from inside a convenience store and slowly writes Shibutaku's name in the notebook....cause of death..."traffic accident."  When the woman breaks free and runs across the street, Takuo pursues and is instantly hit by a truck. "This proves it..." Light concludes staring out the window, "The Death Note is real!"

In the Shinigami realm, Ryuk tells the others that he dropped his notebook in the human world and is going to get it. They respond saying "didn't you have another one behind the old man's back?" (Remember that statement….)

Several days later, Light returns home to find Ryuk standing in his room. After startling him at first, Light begins to act as if he knew all along the book belonged to the Death God. Ryuk tells the boy he's impressed for this is the first time someone has done so much with a death note in just five days.

"What happens now?" Light asks, "Are you going to take my soul or something?".  Light is surprised when Ryuk says he isn't going to do anything. "The minute the Death Note lands in the human world, the Notebook belongs in the human world.....so it's yours now."

”Is there no price to pay for using the notebook?” Light questions.

Ryuk responds saying, “The terror and torment that only humans who've used it will experience…is the price. And when you die....I'll be the one writing your name down in my notebook, but don't think that any human who uses the deathnote can go to Heaven or to Hell.”

There's a knock on the door. It's Mrs. Yagami bringing apples. Ryuk says not to worry...only the person using the notebook can see the Shinigami that it once belonged to.

“Why was I chosen?” Light asks after his mother leaves. Ryuk tells him, “You weren't. I just happened to drop it, and you just happened to find it.” Ryuk added that since it was unknown who would find the notebook, he wrote the instructions in English; it's the most popular language in your world. When Light asked why he dropped it in the first place, Ryuk simply said that he was bored.

A flashback shows the stunning events that have taken place the past 5 days. Criminals are dying in their prison cells or worse just seconds after Light methodically writes their name in the deathnote. And his justification is; The world is a rotten mess. Those who are rotten should die! The world needs to be cleansed. I'll use the deathnote to change the world!!

Light claimed that he is going to make the whole world know of his existence....for he is the one passing righteous justice. ”Why would you go through all that trouble?” Ryuk asked. Light said simply “I.... was also bored....”

After Light admitted his full intentions, Ryuk commented, "So then you'll be the only bastard left?"

”What are you talking about, Ryuk? Light responded, "I'm a serious straight-A student....some say the best kid in Japan. And I .... will be the God of the new world!"

"I was right....humans are interesting," Ryuk thinks with a grin.
