GAZE

L continues to discuss the Kira investigation with the select members of the Japanese police force, which includes Chief Yagami. They discuss the actions of Raye Penbar on the day of his death. The astute, L, noticed the large envelope Raye carried and the fact that it was missing when the young FBI agent left the train. As they are talking, L receives a phone call informing him that Naomi Misora is missing. He recalls working with her and remembers her as a strong woman; therefore, suicide was out of the question. Due to the circumstances, L informs the others that they will narrow their search to the individuals that Raye was sent to investigate. The Chief was shocked to hear that his family was among them. However, he is cooperative and agrees to have his home bugged.

Meanwhile, Light is busy writing the names of criminals in the notebook with future dates of death. So many that Ryuk admits he hasn’t seen anything quite like this. The boy tells the questioning shinigami that he is doing this just in case something happens to him. This way the deaths will continue, and he won’t be a suspect.

The next day, Light returns from school to find that his room has been bugged. (The intelligent boy has set several traps that signal someone has been in his room.) Knowing this, he makes sure to act as a normal teen….such as reading girly magazines. The situation is especially hard on Ryuk who, after determining there are 64 cameras in Light’s room alone, cannot eat apples.

Time goes on and Light continues to play-up the teenage roll. Even when L plants an obvious TV announcement, Light is not phased and makes sure to act as if he’s just another concerned citizen.

Elsewhere, L and Chief Yagami are watching the boy. L notices that this boy is extremely intelligent. The Chief is sure his son is completely innocent.

After dinner that evening, Light grabs a bag of chips and heads up to his room to study. Inside the bag, he has hidden a small TV. When the TV airs a criminal account, Light writes the name ….all the while, L and the Chief believe the boy is simply studying.

A short time later at L's hotel and surveillance area, Watari has informed him that the recently aired criminal has died. Even though it appears that Light’s alibi is solid, L still suspects something is amiss.

The next morning is garbage day for the Yagami’s. Light conveniently throws the empty (not really) chip bag into the trash can with the rest of the garbage. He watches from his balcony as the garbage truck crushes his $350-$400 (ouch) alibi.

To be continued…..
