EPISODE SUMMARIES

ASSAULT

Whoa….everyone better make sure to keep their shoes on, cause this episode will knock your socks off!! Just when you think that Kira (Light) has become even more of a cold-blooded killer (we thought that before this episode....right!), you find out that this isn’t quite the case…..read on.

Picking up from last episode, Sakura T.V. has received tapes from who they believe is Kira, and are more than willing to air them. What better way to increase their ratings. L and the other detectives are discussing Naomi when Watari enters telling them to turn on Sakura T.V. They can’t believe what begins to unfold! First, they are told to change the channel to two different stations where the commentators have met their deaths. That was to show proof that Kira isn’t fooling around. Then Kira begins to state his demands to make the world a better place. (From his hospital bed, Chief Yagami is watching as well.)

The officers are mortified! Officer Akito runs out to stop the station from continuing to air those tapes. When he arrives, the guard will not let him in. Akito pulls his gun to create his own entrance, but before that can happen, he experiences a heart attack and collapses. Akito didn’t even have time to press his belt warning system before he met his maker.

Back at L’s, the other officers see the airing with their comrade lying dead in front of the building. Aizawa wants to run there himself….angered and heartbroken to see his friend was killed. L tries to talk to him logically in order to calm him down, however, it isn’t until Aizawa notices that L himself is shaking that he takes the good advice.

Meanwhile, as the station continues to air the Kira tapes, a bus driven by Chief Yagami crashes through the station's front lobby. He exits concealing himself. After finding the station manager, the Chief demands the tapes. At first the manager hesitates using the excuse that they will be killed if they don’t comply. The Chief basically says, “Don’t give me that bullsh**!” He knows it’s ratings that this station manager is after, and pulls his gun to be more persistent.

Once he has the tapes, the Chief contacts L. Worried about the safety of other police officers (two young, innocent officers were killed when they showed up to investigate just a few minutes earlier) L has worked out a deal with deputy chief Kitamura. He informs Chief Yagami that he can exit through the front doors. As he slowly makes his way to the front, the Chief cannot believe what he sees ahead of him. The whole street is manned by police and swat teams...their faces blocked. This display of police strength was meant to show Kira that they won't be bullied by him.

In the dark confines of his room, Light watches everything that has happened and grins. “There really is a God on my side,” he snickers, “a Death God.” Unfortunately, Light knows that this person is actually tarnishing his name, because until now he hasn’t killed any innocent people….unless they were trying to catch him (had to clarify that). The boy also knows that he must find this fake Kira before the police does. They must NOT know about the “Notebook!”

Back at the investigation hotel room, the Chief has arrived carrying the tapes. L has already suspected a fake Kira and asked the Chief if it would be alright to include his son (Light) in the investigation. Chief Yagami hopes that this means his son is no longer suspected ....but L has his own thoughts.

Surprise! The next day, the sound of a woman's heels meeting the pavement are heard as a shinigami (Rem) asks her why she doesn't use her own deathnote. It's no surprise when she says that she supports Kira and wants to meet him. That's why she went through the trouble of sending the tapes to the T.V. station.....to get his attention. "It's a dangerous game your playing," Rem responds.

"It'll be ok. I'm sure Kira will be kind to innocent girls," the pretty blond says, "...and if it does come to that. Misa is stronger for I have the eyes."

To be continued…..
