EPISODE SUMMARIESJUSTICE
Near tells Commander Lester that there is a 7% chance that the police and Kira are accomplices. On a different note, crime in Japan has dropped but citizens live in fear. If their name is posted on the Internet, Kira will kill them. At a press conference in the United States, the President has declared his recognition of Kira. Since his beginning, wars have stopped and organized crime is practically extinct. The President informs the press that he will not support any efforts to stop Kira. Near admits that they must disband based on that "maggot" president's declaration (hmmmm...must be related to our current president....ha, ha...j/k.). Meanwhile, Halle Lidner has exited the shower and come face to face with Mello's gun barrel. She takes him to Near's headquarters where Near welcomes him in. Mello wants his picture returned. Although he has no intention of helping Near, Mello tells the boy how the notebook belongs to a Shinigami and how touching it allows you to see that Shinigami. He also says that one of the rules written in the book is a lie.....that's all he was willing to tell. "Which one of us will reach Kira first?" Mello questions just before leaving. It's apparent that their goal is the same. A short time later, Near has analyzed what Mello told him and believes the fake rule is...."If you don't write another name within 13 days, you too will die." Near contacts Light (a.k.a. 2nd L). He asks to test the fake rule by writing Mello's name in the book and waiting 13 days to see if he, himself dies. Light (sweating at this point) confers with the others, who are all against it. Before Near hangs up, he tells them that he believes that at the very least there's someone among you that Kira is collaborating with. The other officers begin to suspect Light even more. Light realizes what is happening and wants Near dead!! That evening, the U.S. President gets a phone call from Kira. He tells the President to disband the SPK. He is to use the police, CIA, FBI, and any other organization to locate the current SPK members. Once he finds that out, he must send the details to a place he provides. Kira threatens the President with his life if he doesn't cooperate. Meanwhile, this goofball, Demegawa, is passing himself off as one as Kira's disciples. With a group of media following him, the heavyset man says he is going to New York to flush out the evil organization that opposed Lord Kira on live broadcast. He says that under Kira's orders, the President contacted him. Seems ratings are a key objective of this guy as well. Back in Japan, Aizawa doesn't want to believe Light is Kira, but can't help himself. With the 13 day rule a fake, then Light has no alibi. Suddenly, Matsuda comes running in exclaiming Demegawa is broadcasting live! In New York, an angry mob of people are trying to destroy the building that housed the SPK. Misa is also watching the live broadcast. Under Light's orders, she is to write down Near's name as soon as he exits the building. Inside the now burning building, Near gets a phone call from 2nd L (Light). "What's the matter, Near," Light says, "Is this the work of Mello, who wants to eliminate the SPK? Or is it the details of the SPK are now out in the open like any normal people?" An agitated Near pops the head off of a toy robot he was holding and squints while thinking, "This guy....it's obvious......" "Victory is mine, Near," Light thinks with an evil grin.
