The Death God, Jealous, used to constantly gaze at one particular girl (Misa) from his place in the Death God world. He was watching her one day when he knew her life had run out. (Rem chose to watch with him.) She was walking home late at night when a man appeared from an alley. He was carrying a large knife and professed his love for her. She didn't know him so naturally refused. As Jealous was watching he began to write the man's name in his deathnote against Rem's warnings.

Jealous did something no Death God should ever do. He used his Death Note to save the girl... He should never do that for Death Gods solely exist to take human lives in order to increase their own. Shortly afterwards Jealous disintegrated. His Death Note was the only thing left behind, and his life was added to the lifespan of the girl he had been watching. That girl was Misa. Jealous was in love with her.
