Mikami genuinely worships Kira and believes that by just being given the notebook, he is the chosen one. He is said to have the ability to distinguish good and evil far better than any adult. His sense of justice is strong, which is why he chose to become a Prosecutor.

Growing up, Mikami saw much unhappiness in his life. He had faced death many times. He believes that humans are either good or evil. Even in school, he fought against evil as the class representative. Sadly, his mother didn't support his fight against evil and wanted her boy to stop. One day 4 bullies and his mother were involved in a fatal accident when they were driving recklessly. To his surprise...everyone he wanted to die...did. Afterwards his class became peaceful. "This is how things should be," he thought.

Mikami believed that useless evil people should be eliminated. Then one day it started happening. It was the dawning of Kira! He began to go to places where Kira followers congregated. Then one day Ryuk presented him with the Death Note and the shinigami eyes!! It was the dawning of the 4th Kira!
