Raye is the handsome, young FBI agent sent to Japan to investigate the Kira incidents. He is the first to tail Light, but he did not suspect the boy....especially after seeing him go on a date. During the bus jacking in episode 4, Raye unwittingly shows Light his identification. (That eventually led to his demise.)

In episode 5, Light cleverly came up with a scheme tricking Raye into actually writing the names of all of the other FBI agents who were sent to Japan on a ripped page from the Death Note. Without realizing it, Raye was giving his colleagues a death sentence. He, however, never knew the outcome of his actions for he was killed (heart attack) by Light just a short time after writing the names.

Raye was engaged to the extremely intelligent ex-FBI agent Naomi Misora. He was to meet with her parents while in Japan. Sadly, he was killed by Light before the meeting could take place. Grief stricken by Raye's death, Naomi takes it upon herself to do her own Kira investigation.
