IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS

LAW OF CONSERVATION: You must sacrifice something of equal value in order to gain something. That is the principle of equivalent trade in alchemy.

THE PHILOSOPHER'S STONE: The stone that can amplify the alchemist's technique by infinity. Those who possess it are no longer bound by the Law of Conservation in Alchemy. With the Philosopher's Stone, one can attach their soul to someone's body. Unfortunately, to create the Stone human lives must be sacrificed. Equivalent trade?....I think not.

THE HOMUNCULI: Those born from failed attempts at human alchemy...in other words, a created human. Originally when they are born, they don't have a human shape. If you give them their source of energy (the red stone), they gain power & a human shape. Homunculus have the same body structure as humans. The human body is composed of a substance whose effects potentially increase the body's hardness and resistance to abrasion. That is carbon which accounts for about 1/3 of the human body. Homunculus are weakened when they are close to the bones (or other body part) of the person you tried to resurrect. These created humans cannot use alchemy, but they can teach it to others. Eerie as this may sound, they can't use alchemy, because they came from beyond the gate.
