Habits Die Hard

Disclaimer: Blah blah blah. If you’ve read any of my fics, then you know. Otherwise…go read the first one, ‘kay?

Part VI

I grew up a few inches, about seven, not much. I wasn’t suspecting to grow that much, since I was such a young demon, but yet I felt a little…disappointed.

Next, my hair. It grew down to about my waist, flowing in the wind of my aura. My ears stayed the same, except for the fact that they got a little bigger to match my size. I realized I wasn’t turning into an animal…more like a human animal. I guessed that it was because I was a mixed-blooded demon. Ah well.

My body quickly outgrew my clothes. My arms a little longer, my legs tons longer. Heh, growing up. My tail seemed to be getting whipped around in the wind, but then I realized that it had grown much longer and a little thicker.

I felt myself blushing like crazy. In just a moment or two, my aura would be gone and Link would be staring at me. Sheesh.

My nails seemed to be extending at a tremendous rate. They felt like small blades on my fingers. My top two fangs grew longer, to about my bottom lip.

Then, the aura was gone. I fell to the ground, landing on my hands and knees.

Staring at me were two wide-eyed Amara and Sis, with Link goggling at my looks.

I felt myself blushing the deepest color possible to blush, then realized I was in fact wearing clothes. They seemed to be like my old ones, my two belts included.

“WOW!” yelled Sis, running up to me. For the first time, I was taller.

“See? I told you it would work,” I heard Amara say to Link. He just mumbled.

“Kat…your eyes are still glowing…”

Weird. I could see just fine. But when I held a finger up to my eyes, I saw a cerulean shadow on it.

“Oh,” said Amara, “That just shows your aura. It should go away in a few minutes.”
But it didn’t.

“Uh…’kay…hey Alexia, why don’t you give it a try?”

“Er…sure, yeah, why not?”

Sis walked to the place I had been during my transformation. I saw her eyes dart from me to Amara, then resting on my chest belt.

There was a flash of green light. I held my arm up to my eyes. The light was blinding. It hurt.

I thought my transformation had taken longer (authors note: or maybe it was the fact that I had to type in the details ^_^;). But sure enough, Alexia had also turned into her true demon form.

I had enjoyed being taller than her for two whole minutes.

“Lookin’ good, Sis,” I said sarcastically.

“Uh-huh. Can’t say the same for you though.”
I made an attempt to kick her in the shins, but Alexia jumped out of the way. I made a small crater where she had just been.

“Amazing,” said Eowyn softly, moving up towards me, “It seems that, as your demon forms, Katana is better at power while Alexia has amazing speed.”
“Yeah yeah yeah, we knew that already,” replied Link, semi-annoyed at how I was stronger than him (not that I wasn’t already).

“Yeah, what Tiger-boy said,” said Konjoh, making an attempt to clean his ear. I heaved a heavy sigh.

“For the fact that you two are sisters, I’m surprised on how much different you two look,” Amara commented, eyeing the two of us.

“Uh-huh. Katana resembles more of a tiger-fox while Alexia looks a little more like a wolf.” (For all of you Yu-Yu Hakusho fans out there, think of us as Yoko Kuramas but different).

“Let’s eat!” I yelled suddenly, “I’m hungry!

                                    *                                   *                                   *

Amara was scribbling down on a piece of parchment. “We have four demons, an elf, and me…hmm…”

While the rest of us were chowing down on riceballs, Amara had begun to figure out a plan of attack for Naraku.

“Eowyn can take the back and protect us with a shield…Katana and Link could be in front of her while Alexia and Konjoh take the front…but what about me?”

“What about you?” asked Link, trying to chew through a sticky section of rice.

“Well, I’m not leaving you guys to do all the work.”
“And have all the fun,” I heard Konjoh mutter under his breath.

“Hey, I’ve got an idea,” I piped up, “Since Sis throws daggers, she could be in back with Eowyn and you could take her place up front.”
“That’d be good except for the fact that, if Alexia does go in the back, she could stab you or Link in the head,” Eowyn responded.

“…Hadn’t thought about that.”

“GAH!” yelled Amara, crumpling up the parchment and throwing it on the floor. It landed in an area where more pieces of parchment had landed before.

“You okay?” I asked. Amara looked at me, grinning.
“Yeah. It’s just that my brain’s having a total meltdown. How ‘bout you?”

“…No, can’t really say the same.”

“You know what we should do,” piped up Link, “Is just go out and explore. Naraku’s all over the place, you know.”

Eowyn nodded. “Yes. And besides, a few weeks in the wilderness will do us all some good.”

The six of us agreed. We were bored, we needed training, and besides, Naraku wasn’t gonna just show up at our doorstep.

“Hey,” Alexia said suddenly, “What about…you know…”

“Who? What? Where? When? Why?” I asked in a frenzied stat of panic.

“Mom and Dad,” she said quietly.

I looked down at the table. “Oh yeah. Almost forgot.”

“So are we gonna go look for them?” Eowyn asked.

Amara and Konjoh never looked more confused in their lives. “What? What’s going on? Who?” they asked.

“Their parents,” said Eowyn, then explained. Amara said “Mmmm…” while Konjoh was all over Sis, as if investigating her.

“You don’t look a thing like them!” he said. “Your dad was a better fighter and your mother much more beautiful-“

He had no sooner said the word then Alexia had bopped him over the head with a nearby pot. He withered to the ground, a large lump on his head and a few of his teeth missing.

“Ouch,” I said. “That looks painful.”
“Would you like to know first hand?”
“Not really.”

Amara spoke up. “I’ve heard of them, from my grandfather, who actually saw them.”

“Lucky him,” I heard Sis mutter under her breath. I wanted to say the same thing.

Amara shrugged. “He said that they looked like any other demons. You know, they weren’t worshiped or anything. But he said they were strong.”

“Like we didn’t know that,” I mumbled. I was in a slightly bad mood (my mood’s can change pretty fast if they want to). I leaned on my elbow, then sighed.

Link yawned. “Maybe bed isn’t such a bad idea.”

Me and Eowyn agreed. We sat up from our chairs, then stretched. I went off and rolled up my bed cot, picked it up, and went outside with Link right behind me. Eowyn followed him, levitating her cot with her magic. I looked back at her; her face set in a grin.

“Hey,” she said, “Whatever works, right?”

I rolled my eyes and shrugged, then plopped my cot on the ground and unrolled it. Link did too, just a foot away from mine, while Eowyn decided to be fancy by throwing hers up in the air. She shot a bolt of lavender magic at it, making it hover just above Link’s cot and mine. Eowyn jumped up, doing a vault so she landed on her cot. I crawled into mine and sighed. The plans of tomorrow were in the hands of Amara, Sis, and Konjoh now.

My eyelids grew heavy. I let them slide down, reminding myself not to go asleep.

But I never listen to myself.

                                    *                                   *                                   *

When I woke up, the first thing I saw was Eowyn’s cot just above my head. My eyes widened, but then remembered last night’s trick. I sighed and closed my eyes again.

Not even five minutes later, Konjoh’s voice filled my ears. “WAKE UP YOU STUPID LITTLE CREATURES! TODAY’S THE BIG DAY!”

I heard Link groan. I smiled and sat up, my ears brushing Eowyn’s floating cot.

“What’s the big day?” I asked rather dumbly. A voice spoke in my head.

Naraku, dummy,” it said. It sounded strangely like Eowyn’s…

“HEY!” I yelled, looking up. All I saw was white cotton. I shuffled over to the side, stood up, and then yelled at Eowyn. “HEY! What’s the big idea, having you go into my head? You know, there’s a lotta stuff I don’t want you to find out.”
“Like what?” she asked casually, fingering her hair and looking at Link, a sly expression on her face.

“Like –“ I stopped. “JERK!” I yelled, raising up my arm.

“What’s happening?”
“…I’m about to kill you…?”

“No…look at your hand…”

I did. In my hand was something, a sphere of light. It glowed many shades of blue, the outer most parts being indigo and the center white just barely tinged with cerulean. I felt rather dumb, realizing that I had always had this power but had never known about it until now.

“Wow!” shouted Link, as he came over to watch. “Magic! Maybe you can kick Eowyn’s butt!”

The elf shot him a dirty look. “Are you joking? There’s no way an amateur demon who has just discovered she can use magic could defeat the likes of me. It’s no where near possible.”

I did a grunt-sigh and made my hand into a fist. The energy burst into blue air, ranging from the darkest cobalt to the lightest sky. I put my arm back at my side.

“So…lavender…” said Link randomly as me and Eowyn went into the hut to wash up. As Link tried to follow us, Konjoh grabbed his robe and pulled, forcing Link to realize what he had been doing.
“Sorry,” he said. “Er…really.” Link shook his head like a dog drenched in water would. “This weird feeling came over me…”

I rolled my eyes as Eowyn closed the door. Inside were Sis and Amara, who looked at us. We nodded and faced different corners, changing.

“Do you think,” said Eowyn as I was buckling my belt, “That Link was possessed? I mean, he’s never done anything perverted before.”

“He doesn’t seem like the type to do such a thing,” I responded. All boys did stupid things in their lives, and the same went for Link, but he’d never to anything as to follow us into the hut to change.

“Not sure,” said Alexia. “He’s nice, yeah, but all boys’ll do perverted stuff.”

The thought made my stomach flop. I wanted to defend Link, but so strongly I didn’t know why…

“Kat?” Alexia asked. “You okay?”

“Hmm? Oh, yeah, just fine. Fine…” I smoothed down the front of my kimono and went over to the small, kitchen-like area. There I took the small leather bags full of random powders, rocks, and plants and attached them to my chest belt. I turned around as Eowyn began to speak.

“You guys…I have a favor to ask of you,” she said, her voice sounding heavy. She looked sad and depressed all of a sudden.

“Wha – what is it?” Amara asked, patting her hair down.

“You know the whole ‘me being a human who turned into an elf’ thing, right?”

“’course we do. Naraku did that to your entire family. You told us this when we first met you, remember?” Sis said.

“To tell you the truth, it’s not my entire family. It’s just me. I’m the only one in my family that Naraku turned into an elf.” She sighed and looked down at the floor. Curiosity flooded me.

“What…why? Why, being, A: Why did he do that, and B: Why did ya lie to us?” I asked. I felt, well, betrayed. I thought she was my best friend (more or less), and that we were going to help her when we had the entire Shikon no Tama. But, all this time, we never knew the full truth.

“Well, here goes,” Eowyn began. “It happened about three years ago…”

Ah yes, love endings like that. *dodges rotten tomatoes* Hey hey HEY!

I apologize greatly for my absence for anybody that reads this fic. I just kinda lost interest for a while. That, and I was working on my Young Authors story in my spare time. But it paid off! I won the fiction category in my school! I ROCK! ^^

On different note, I will try to work on chapter 7 (and so on and so forth) whenever I can. But it’ll be harder because I’m in the school play (yeah, I’m one of those weird people that loves after-school stuff).

Oh, and change of e-mail address! ‘Tis now otaku06@sbcglobal.net. See ya!
