The Girl Who Overcame Time & The Boy Who Was Just Overcome

As the series begins, we see the events that transpired 500 years ago in Feudal Japan. A devious hanyou, InuYasha, is attempting to steal the sacred jewel when he is stopped by the arrow of the injured priestess Kikyo. The priestess succumbs to her injuries (those she believed were inflicted by InuYasha), but prior to dying she instructs her sister to burn the jewel along with her body.

It is now modern day Japan. On the day before her birthday, young Kagome receives the oddest gifts from her eccentric grandfather. She doesn't quite believe his tales relating to the history of the shrine that they care for.

The next day Kagome is ready to leave for school when she notices her young brother, Sota, looking for their cat. He believes the animal has wandered into the old well. When Kagome looks into the well, she is grabbed by a multi-armed centipede demon and transported through time to the Feudal Era. However, she arrives 50 years after the events that claimed Kikyo's life.

She was able to free herself from the demon and make her way out of the well...but wait a minute! Her surroundings have completely changed. She approaches the young hanyou pinned to a tree that appears to be dead. As she is playing with his ears, a barrage of arrows just miss her. They are the villagers who believe she is a demon.

At the village, Kagome meets an aging Kaede, Kikyo's younger sister. She determines Kagome is human and is amazed by her strong resemblance to Kikyo. Suddenly, the centipede demon attacks again. Wanting to keep the evil youkai from the villagers, Kagome lures it back to the forest. Her screams awaken the sleeping InuYasha. He tells her to release him, and he will destroy the demon.

In the battle with the demon, the sacred jewel is released from within Kagome. InuYasha eventually kills the demon and demands that Kagome hand over the jewel or he will kill her as well. Wait a minute...isn't he supposed to be the hero?

Seekers of the Sacred Jewel

InuYasha pursues Kagome in an effort to grab the jewel. The Lady Kaede puts a spell on a beaded necklace informing Kagome to use a special word that will always result in restraining the young hanyou. Kagome yells..."SIT".

That evening a defiant InuYasha claims he will get the jewel no matter what it takes. He wants to use it's power to become a full-fledged demon. Kaede explains to Kagome the Shikon Jewel's value and how many will be after it.

The next morning, while alone, Kagome is kidnapped by a band of thieves and taken to their master. When InuYasha tracks her down, he finds their master's body has been taken over by the evil crow demon. After slaughtering the lifeless body, InuYasha must watch in horror as the crow flies off with the jewel.

InuYasha and Kagome pursue the crow, who has now swallowed the jewel increasing it's power. The evil crow grabs a young boy from a village. InuYasha uses his iron claw to slash at the crow resulting in the boy tumbling into the river. Kagome dives into the water and pulls the boy to safety. She notices the crows foot is still attached to the boy. Kagome attaches the foot to an arrow and shoots. Uh oh...it not only hits the crow, but the jewel within it. The sacred Shikon no Tama shatters....pieces scattering throughout the land.

Later when InuYasha finds a piece of the jewel, Kagome realizes what happened. InuYasha freaks!
