InuYasha and company are traveling to the remains of Naraku's castle. On the way, Miroku and Sango discuss how Kagome must have given in since she knows that InuYasha is unwilling to give up Kikyo. When they arrive at their destination, not a trace of the castle is found. Sango, however, locates the remains of her father's armor and recaps the events that took place on that fateful day. Miroku gathers up the remains of Sango's father and friends so they may be moved to a proper burial spot and prayed for. At approximately the same time, young Kohaku is playfully doing tricks with firewood entertaining an elderly couple. It seems they had found him collapsed by the location of the castle that mysteriously disappeared. Evening falls, and Kohaku sees Naraku's poisonous bees approaching the cabin. He warns the elderly couple to stay inside then the boy flees into the woods. At a nearby campsite, Kirara begins to snarl, and Kagome senses a jewel shard is close by. They head out in the direction of the shard. What they find is startling! Young Kohaku is about to fall prey to an enormous youkai, but Sango thwarts the attack with a mighty thrust of her boomerang-type weapon. Kohaku seems passive enough, but he doesn't recognize his big sister. Sango takes the boy to a cabin and tends to his wounded arm. While there, she recalls the happier days of their past and embraces her brother. Kohaku feels embarrassed, but Sango explains that they are brother and sister. Later that evening, Sango and InuYasha argue. Sango feels Kohaku has escaped from Naraku's grasp, but InuYasha doesn't believe the boy can be trusted. Could this be another one of Naraku's traps?? Kohaku hears the argument and leaves. Suddenly, a massive swarm of Naraku's poisonous bees arrive along with tons of youkai. Sango fears they may be after Kohaku. She and Kagome go searching for the young boy when they find him missing. At the same time InuYasha and Miroku are facing the youkai when the sinister Kagura appears. She tells how Naraku told her to retrieve the shard and send the boy's corpse to his sister. In the dense woods, Kohaku runs until he is completely surrounded by the deadly bees. It looks like the end until Sango's weapon destroys them all. Kohaku asks why she is so nice? Sango replies, "Because you are my little brother....the one and only brother that I have." More youkai are approaching, and Sango asks Kagome to take care of Kohaku while she disposes of the demons. Kagome and Kohaku run for safety, but soon they TOO are cornered by youkai. Kagome uses all of her arrows forcing them to hide in a small cave-like hole. Kagome keeps watch making sure they are not spotted. Unknown to her, Naraku has seized control of Kohaku...telling him to kill Kagome! While her back is turned, Kohaku raises his sickle-like weapon to finish her off...... ...to be continued...
