Sango's Suffering and Kohaku's Life
Grandpa is skimming through the newspaper looking for Kagome's next illness when the girl breezes by him on her way to school. How upsetting....he had just found the perfect excuse.
Once at school, Kagome realizes that she had forgotten all of her books. Lucky for her, Sota had dropped them off. That is not all he has done. When he heard there would be a test, he got all of the notes from Kagome's friends. Kagome smiled in appreciation of her thoughtful, young brother.
Kagome is now back in the Feudal Era, and InuYasha has just annihilated a swarm of demons sent by Naraku using the tetsusaiga. The evil Naraku resolves to send Kohaku to kill InuYasha and the others knowing that they will have difficulty fighting the young boy.
That evening Kagome and Sango bath in the Hot Springs while InuYasha and Miroku sit by a campfire discussing Naraku. Kagome notices the scar on Sango's back and asks if it was from a youkai. Sango shakes her head and tells the tale of her once gentle brother. She was thankful he knew who he was before he died. Suddenly, our demon exterminator picked up a rock and tossed it into the bushes. Surprise! It was simply a monkey. Unfortunately for the guys, they had heard the disturbance and came to see what happened. They got an eyeful and quite a beating. Ouch!
The next morning a fatally wounded villager approaches the girls. InuYasha comes running...he smells a lot of blood. They find a village where the inhabitants were massacred. Sango discovers traps have been placed everywhere. InuYasha weeds out a young boy, causing Sango to stare in shock and disbelief. Kohaku was responsible for all this devastation? The boy turns and runs through the forest. Sango has Kiara transform, and they give chase. He runs through a barrier, and Sango follows.
InuYasha and the others arrive at that very barrier, but they are unable to get through. Kagome explained who the boy was and how the youth had a jewel shard embedded in his back. They know that this is the work of Naraku.
Inside the barrier, Sango approaches Kohaku. Naraku arrives telling the girl she should be thankful that he brought Kohaku back to life. The evil man told Sango she must bring him the tetsusaiga, and he will let Kohaku live. Sango won't be tricked and hurls her boomerang at the man. Kohaku blocked it....why? Naraku explains that he has made Kohaku forget everything. In a gust of black smoke, Naraku and the boy disappear.
Sango slowly emerges from the barrier and meets up with the others. She angrily admits that Naraku is behind everything. They decide it would be best to return to the village. Sango asks Miroku to give a memorial service for the villagers.
As they bury the dead, InuYasha declares he won't be fooled by Naraku's bait. After all, the boy did kill an entire village. Kagome feels the hanyou is being inconsiderate. Although he feels sorry for Sango....in his mind InuYasha knows this is something that he must do.
Later that evening, as the group is sleeping, Sango has sweet memories of her brother. She wonders if he has really forgotten everything. Her anger builds...."Naraku must pay!" A determined Sango stares at the sleeping InuYasha....."I will take the tetsusaiga to save Kohaku."
