CHAPTER 3~ ROKO MEASHI
“O my gosh this is boring.” Kizna yawned, with her eyes half closed. It was the next morning at breakfast, which Karissa went to again, for a change.
“I cant believe that that new guy,….uh what was his name again?” Saku said, searching for his face in the crowd of candidates.
“I think it was…..actually….I cant remember. Well anyways, who wants to know who that freak is that moved all the way up to top candidates like us….I bet he won’t even add up to my level of strength, right honey?” Brint smirked conceitedly, turning his head slightly to get a glance of Karissas face, who would probably would have already hurt him by now. But instead of being pissed at Brint, it was something other than that, but Brint knew what she was doing.
“Thinking again, hu?” He mumbled and turned back around to Saku, lazily.
How
could he….I just don’t understand,…he's not normal, he just cant be. You
cant be a new candidate at that age, could
you? Well if you can, I didn’t think that you would be allowed to be
permitted as a top candidate-
Karissa….
“What!?” Karissa blurted out loud confused and astonished. Something…no…someone broke into her train of thought.
“Wut?” Brint said, turning back around to face Karissa.
“Did you-“
Karissa…
Just then Karissa realized that it wasn’t said out loud, but someone tapped into her brain, and had no intention of ever leaving. Karissa burst out of her chair.
Karissa,
come here…relax
“STOP IT!” Karissa screamed in horror, grabbing her head and plugging her ears." STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!” Karissa now screamed violently, as the voice began to get louder.
She whirled around and thrust herself against someone, someone that had been running towards her, which she had not expected.
She
backed away slowly, her eyes jammed shut tight, sweat dripping off her forhead.Karissa…I'm
waiting for you…
This was too much. Karissa collapsed to the ground, darkness completely around her.
Karissa awoke with a gasp for air. She was no longer in the cafeteria for breakfast talking to Brint about the new candidates, but in a small room, with cabinets, beds, and a guy sitting on a chair, looking over her with worried eyes. He was getting ready to grab for the pulse checker when he saw Karissas eyes flash open.
“Oh good your awake!” He said cheerfully, with a smile appearing across his face.
Karissa had never seen him before, so she wasn’t sure how to react. “Where the hell am I?” Karissa said, finally drawing her attention away from the boy and onto the room.
“Nurses office,” he said soothingly.
Karissa sat up abruptly.
“Its ok, calm down everything is alright.” He said again as karissa looked up at him.
He had brown spiky hair that sat in front of the tip of his left eye. His eyes were gray and soft, and comforting.
Karissa immediately relaxed at the first glance of those soothing and trusting eyes and propped her pillow up against the back of the bed. When something tripped her mind.
“Hey… aren’t you the new candidate,… candidate #91?” Karissa asked as she searched him over.
“Uh yes. Names Roko Meashi. Age 17.” He said, glancing up at the laptop he had sitting on the marble counter tops.
“Karissa, Karissa Ang Terashmi” Karissa spoke, more confident than before.
“Age15. And I’m not a repairer, just to make that clear.” Karissa said, tilting her head to one side, trying to look at the screen that popped up on the laptop.
Roko took no notice, and continued typing and talking at the same time.
“That’s ok, I have already figured that out. I took some tests while you were unconscious. It wasn’t hard to see that your body had no automics.”
“Hey can I ask you a question?” Karissa said, trying to figure out how to put it in the right words so it wouldn’t be taken personally.
“If you’re a candidate… why exactly are you in the nurses office?”
“Well that’s quite simple. I'm both. Part time, I'm learning new things about health and substituting if the nurse is absent. The other part is what I do best. Be candidate number ninety one.” He said laughing lightly.
“Now, I have a question for you.” Roko said, his voice deeper than before and more serious, and his eyes, worried again. His mood had changed completely. He put his hand lightly on Karissas shoulder. She new it couldn’t be good. “I need you to answer in complete honesty,” Roko asked the question hesitantly. “What happened in the cafeteria during breakfast?”
