Chapter 2

The Wolf Pounces

Saito watched as the girl calling herself Tokio charged forward to strike, he easily countered her attacks with his sword.  He sighed as he blocked using his sword with only one hand, this was not exactly a fight he enjoyed, because he could have easily killed her at any time…yet as he watched her, he felt a strange sensation through his body.  He watched the way her body moved her swaying from side to side and sweat beginning to run down her brow as she stopped and panted heavily.  Could it be that he was falling for her?

He of course would not show any emotion and said,” Are you finished?”

“Haven’t even started,” she said charged forward yet again.

“Not this time,” He said as he too charged forward.

The two ran toward one another at incredible speed slashing at each other.  In what took the time to blink one’s eyes they separated and paused.  Saito frowned as he looked toward his right shoulder and saw there was a tear in his uniform.  Tokio turned and smiled when suddenly she heard and saw three tears appear in her wear and then the band holding her hair in a ponytail snapped.

“It would seem you do have some skill if you were able tear my uniform,” Saito said.

Tokio growled angrily as she held one of the tears with her hand.  Saito smiled, he had to admit that she was kind of cute…especially with her hair hanging down, but it was time to stop fooling around.

“I think it’s time to finish this little fight,” Saito said.

Tokio was about to attack, when from the corner of her eye she saw something.  There standing in the street was a little boy who had wandered out and stood there with wide eyes.  Tokio frowned, if they continued to fight…one of them would surely die…there was no need for this young boy to see anyone die that evening.

            “Wait,” she said to Saito.

Saito frowned then saw the boy and watched as Tokio walked over toward him.  Tokio smiled at the little boy which made him smile as well.

“I think it would be best if you did not watch this sweetie,” she said warmly.

“Are you two fighting,” he asked.

“No…we are just playing,” she said,” but you may get hurt if we continue to play…you should go home…I’m sure your mother misses you.”

“O…okay,” the little boy said with a smile before running off.

Tokio smiled as he ran off, then frowned as she returned her sights to Mr. Fujita…no Mr. Saito.  She drew out her Sai…she would not lose this fight…no matter what.

“There will be no more distractions,” Tokio said with a frown,” Now let us continue.”

“So…you send the kid off so he doesn’t have to witness our battle huh,” Saito said as he rested his sword on his right shoulder.

“Yes…now let’s finish this little battle of ours…this will be the last attack,” she said with a smile.

“Yes it will,” Saito said as he took his sword in his left hand then drew back his arm while resting his right fingertips on the blade itself,” you should be honored…the last thing you see will be my Gatotsu!”

He suddenly charged forward tearing the ground up as he flew forward.  Tokio stood with wide eyes as he drew closer…there was no way for her to dodge the attack.  She crossed her sai in front of her and gritted her teeth waiting for him to strike.  It wasn’t much of a defense, but it was all she could do…she would not run form her foe…if it was her final hour she would face it head on.  Suddenly…Saito stopped only an inch away from her sai, Tokio watched with surprise as he lowered his sword then sheathed it.

            “W…why,” she asked.

“You knew you wouldn’t win…yet you stood your ground,” Saito said with a smirk,” you have the soul of a member of the Shinsegumi and I respect that.  A little stupid on your part, but I still respect that.”

“I don’t want your pity,” she said feeling her face flush.

Embarrassed by his actions then to prove her point brought her sai up to his neck.  She had him now that he had dropped his guard, yet as she looked up at his face, she saw that he was still smiling…which made her blush even more.

“You could finish me…yet you hesitate and continue to blush,” Saito said.

“S…stop it,” she said removing the sai and tucking them behind her into her belt and said,” You should be thankful…I…I have spared your life.”

Saito chuckled then said,” Thanks…now if you’ll excuse me…I have to continue with my rounds.”

He was about to leave when he felt something tug at his shirt, he turned and saw Tokio had hold of his shirt with her head was hanging down…he could tell that she was sobbing.

“What’s wrong with you,” Saito asked.

            “Damn you,” she said.

            “What’s that,” he asked.

She then looked up at him with her big blues the tears still welling up in them and said, “How am supposed to be the strongest…when there are people like you in this world…people who can steal the heart of the weaker.”

She then looked down…the tears running down her face when she suddenly felt strong powerful arms wrap around her.  She looked up and saw him smiling…it seemed like he had closed his eyes and was smiling brilliantly.

“That look doesn’t suit you…not with eyes like yours,” she said placing a hand on his cheek.

He then opened his eyes, his cold features weren’t as cold this time and he truly smiled at her…staring into her loving blue eyes.  He bent down until their lips met…they held each other tightly that night as they basked in the moon light.  Now to some…this would seem like Tokio taming the wolf, but as Saito puts it…this is the wolf pouncing on it prey.

To Be Continued…
