The Appearance of Kurogasa

The police enlist Kenshin's help in capturing a serial murderer. For the past 10 years this villain's targets were famous politicians for the government...all of whom were Imperialists. Many women and children were slaughtered as well. Kenshin seemed familiar with the man describing him as a manslayer left over from the revolution...one that would always announce himself....

Evening falls and Kenshin, Sano, and many other men act as security guards for Kurogasa's next target, Tani. Using a unique technique which would paralyze his victims from a powerful energy emanating from his eyes, Kurogasa makes a bloody trail to his next target. Luckily the paralyzing technique has no effect on Kenshin, and Tani is protected. Kurogasa, however, is invigorated with the thought of fighting the legendary Battousai. He makes his exit challenging Kenshin to battle under the moon.

Sano returns to the Dojo and informs Miss Kaoru of Kenshin's challenge. Kaoru does not want Kenshin to return to the manslayer he once was. She sets out to find him.

Kenshin is sitting on a log by the river when approached by Miss Kaoru. She gives Kenshin her favorite indigo scarf making him promise to return it to her. Suddenly, she is grabbed by Kurogasa, and they drift down the river on a small boat. Kenshin helplessly looks on in horror...then anger as he shouts out Kurogasa's name!!!

Deathmatch Under The Moon

Jineh (Kurogasa's real name), takes Kaoru down to a forest where he holds her captive while he waits for the "Battousai" to come fight him. When Kenshin finally turns up, Jineh does that eye thing to Kaoru that not only paralyses her outer body but her lungs as well....she will suffocate in 5 minutes. The only way for Kaoru to be "de-paralyzed" is if Kenshin either kills Jineh or if she breaks out of it herself.

Meanwhile back at the dojo, Sano and Yahiko are reading the note Kenshin wrote telling them to rescue Kaoru if he doesn't return.

Jineh attempting to hurt Kaoru angers Kenshin, and he changes into Battousai mode. Jineh and Kenshin fight, and Kenshin is winning. Just when Kenshin is about to kill Jineh, Kaoru breaks out of the paralysis spell thingy and screams at Kenshin to stop. At that moment, Kenshin stabs Jineh in the arm instead of killing him. Kenshin rushes to Kaoru's side, and they have a sweet reunion. Everything is well when suddenly Jineh rises. Thinking that Jineh is going to hurt Kaoru, Kenshin goes into a defensive stance. Surprisingly, Jineh kills himself since he can't accept that he was defeated.

Upon returning to the dojo, Kenshin returns Kaoru's ribbon stained with his blood. In the usual anime humor, she gets really angry about that. Eventually, the two meet up with Sano and Yahiko and everyone's happy that tranquility is restored for at least a little while.(^0^)

A New Battle

Kenshin is with Sano who is gambling with his buddies and LOSING. When Sano asks where Yoita (another of his gambling buds) is, he is told that Yoita died recently because of opium. It so happens that an anonymous someone had given Yoita opium saying that it was good for his health. Sano is very shocked about this.

Meanwhile, a beautiful young lady is being chased by 2 mean men. She runs into the house where Kenshin and Sano are and begs for their help. Kenshin agrees, and he manages to ward the 2 men away. Unfortunately, 2 of Sano's friends get injured by darts. Just before the men are chased away, they warn Kenshin and Sano that they are Kanryu Takeda's bodyguards and Kenshin will find himself in big big trouble.

Kenshin and Sano take Megumi ( the beautiful young women) to the dojo. Kaoru gets a *little* jealous seeing Kenshin bring home a beautiful girl and clobbers him. Later on that night, Megumi is telling Kenshin that Kanryu Takeda has got over 60 bodyguards but the worst are the Oniwaban group. At that moment, Hyottoko, a giant of the oniwaban group breaks through their walls and starts fighting Sano and Kenshin. Sano beats the guy up to a pulp when the rest of the Oniwaban group comes to save him. Just before the group leaves, Beshimi aims a poison dart at Megumi. Yahiko, being the hero he is, jumps in front of Megumi taking the dart instead.

Kaoru rushes to Yahiko's aid and is about to suck out the poison when Megumi stops her. Megumi examines Yahiko and gives everyone orders (eg: boil water, get ice, get any medical supplies etc). When Megumi stands up to carry Yahiko to bed, something falls out of her pocket. Sano picks this thing up and realizes that it is opium. The episode ends with Sano looking suspiciously at Megumi who is working feverishly to save Yahiko's life.
