Highly energetic and often overbearing Misao happens across Kenshin at the beginning of the Shishio saga. At first she appears to be an independent little thief, but then Kenshin learns that she is a member of the Oniwaban group. Misao is not just ANY member....she is the granddaughter to the former leader (the one whom Aoshi replaced). She was raised among the ill-fated members who succumbed to Kanryu's gattling gun and was devastated when learning of their deaths.

Although she can be hot-headed and impulsive, her intelligence is impressive. Misao has a broad knowledge of Western culture, politics, and geography that especially came in handy during the Shimabara Saga. Her other great attributes include determination and positive thinking. Misao's main weakness is the fondness she has for Aoshi. It's a crush that leaves the poor girl weak in the knees.
