Ryuzaburo Higashiyama is first introduced in episode #78. He is a student of Western painting from Tokyo. He wanted to find the true meaning of art and journeyed far and wide to do so. When he couldn't find the answer, Ryuzaburo lost all confidence in himself.

As fate would have it, he met the Kenshin gang and fell madly in love with Ms. Kaoru. That is when the meaning of art suddenly came to him. Even though his love was one sided, he learned it's true meaning after seeing the feelings Ms. Kaoru had for Kenshin. He began to paint again expressing himself in what can only be described as "interesting" modern art.
