Lanancuras Unbound

Awesome summary and comments written by LKK. Thank you!

The episode opens at the smoldering ruins of Lanancuras's meteorite. The landscape has been decimated. Still encased in stone, Lanancuras hovers about the devastation vowing revenge for the indignities he has experienced. A safe distance away, the three Enterrans -- still in hyperform -- survey the scene while Binka watches over Yakumo who lies unconscious inside Hakuba. Chunks of the stone encasing Lanancuras begin to fall off his body; each one creates a small crater when it hits the ground. Yakumo's pendant glows for a moment then turns dark, and she whimpers in pain. Binka's dismayed cry attracts the Enterrans' attention. Hakuba says that Yakumo is using the last of her power to keep Lanancuras encased but her attempt may cost her life. Mushra orders Binka and Hakuba to take Yakumo away to some place peaceful where she can rest. Now it's the guys' turn to fight Lanancuras. Hakuba and Binka, in the turtlemobile, fly off.

The stones binding Lanancuras's arms to his chest have fallen away. As he gloats, the three Enterrans reach him. Cosmic waves of energy expand from the Kadrian king. The three are thrown backwards by the force. Knowing that as long as some of the stones still encase him, Lanancuras is not at full power, the Enterrans regroup and attack. Mushra attacks with his hyper flame; Kutal summons his earth crusher; Sago uses his aqua tornado. Stone outcrops rise from the ground, blocking the attacks; they never reach Lanancuras. The three try again, flying towards Lanancuras and attacking the Kadrian bodily. Faster than the eye can follow, they furiously swarm around him then withdraw, panting heavily with exertion. Their efforts were for naught. Now it is Lanancuras's turn. He attacks each in turn, sending their bodies to hang lifelessly along the sides of the stone outcrops. More chunks of Lanancuras's stone shell drop his body.

Following Mushra's instructions, Binka and Hakuba have flown the battle zone. Inside Hakuba, Yakumo mutters in pain. Binka urges the robot to do something to help the unconscious woman. The robot projects green lights unto the woman, and that seems to help her rest more easily. Binka believes that with Hakuba's help, Yakumo will get better. However, the robot disagrees. Despite Mushra's best intentions, no distance from the battlefield will be far enough to keep Yakumo from trying to stop Lanancuras. Hakuba believes she will continue to fight the Kadrian even at the cost of her own life. The best the robot can do is to help ease Yakumo's pain.

Back at the battlefield, Lanancuras and the Enterrans continue their fight. Lanancuras traps Mushra under his boot and prepares to pierce the Enterran with his javelin. Mushra reclaims his weapon while Kutal and Sago attack. They are rebuffed. Lanancuras launches a roundhouse kick that nearly wipes out the three.

Hakuba and Binka have returned to the ruins of Shinzo, just as the sun is setting in the West. Slightly reinvigorated, Yakumo awakens and asks Binka to tell Mushra, Sago, and Kutal how grateful she feels for their friendship and that she will be with them always. Trying to distract Yakumo, Binka says that they will be back soon. Yakumo can tell them herself, she adds. Not diverted, Yakumo goes on to thank Binka for being so friendly and kind. Yakumo asks Hakuba if it remembers them always heading west looking for a place called Shinzo. She realizes now Shinzo means much more than she had thought. Binka tries again to distract Yakumo by asking for the story of Shinzo. But Yakumo refuses; she's too tired. In mock anger, Binka admonishes Yakumo then is horrified to discover the woman unconscious again. Hakuba can no longer detect Yakumo's life force. Yakumo's pendant turns black.

At the battle, the Enterrans sense Yakumo's passing. Enraged and tearful, they attack Lanancuras who hits them so forcefully that they are embedded in the bottom of the crater created when they hit the ground. Dazed, each has a fond memory of the human who has become essential to their lives.

Kutal remembers Yakumo's kindness; how she was sensitive to his pain back in the Being Hunters' cave and tended to his wound despite their danger. Sago thinks back to his first meeting with Yakumo; how she could immediately size up the situation and read him like a book. But even when she caught Sago up to no good, she would forgive him and laugh it off with her beautiful laugh.

Although this is their second lifetime together, memories of their first lifetime together flood Mushra's mind. He remembers her fearlessly risking her life while rescuing others. In his memories, Mushra sees her climbing a nearly vertical metal shaft, a fly-like Enterran child clinging to her back. At the top of the shaft, Mushra, in normal form, reaches down to Yakumo for her hand. They clasp hands only to have the sinking ship they are in pull them apart by its movement. Yakumo and the child fall down the shaft. Mushra leaps downward to her and grabs her hand. Sago jumps in after Mushra, grabbing his ankle. Hakuba dangles off the shaft's edge, Sago's cape in its mouth. As the ship begins to explode, the living chain is pull to the top of the shaft. Explosions rock the ship. Climbing into and on top of Hakuba, Yakumo, Mushra, Sago, and the child fly off just as the ship is destroyed. In the present day, Mushra knows that if he searches within, he will find the power to defeat Lanancuras. He can't let Yakumo down and begs her to give his the strength to rid Enterra of the Kadrian monster.

Mushra's plea works. He explodes from the ground for another attack. Lanancuras causes stone spires to rise up before the Enterran who blasts through each one in turn. Finally, one spire rises beneath Mushra, knocking the breath from him. Lanancuras pounds Mushra into the ground. Just as Lanancuras is about to deliver another helping of punishment to the Enterran, Kutal and Sago rise up and capture Lanancuras. They're too late though. The power surging through Lanancuras means that Yakumo is finally gone. Lanancuras breaks from of the final stones that entombed his body. His full strength has been restored. First he will conquer Enterra then the Guardians of Shinzo.

The mention of Yakumo's passing and the threat to that sacred place angers the Enterrans. They attack Lanancuras in Yakumo's name, intending to finish the Kadrian once and for all. The ultra hyper flame attack, the earth crusher attack, and the Aqua Dragon all speed towards Lanancuras simultaneously, but he rebuffs them. Lanancuras vanishes. The Kadrian isn't gone; Kutal can still smell him. Sago hears him laugh. From the beyond, Lanancuras's voice declares that their crystal jewels are his. A force speeds by Sago ripping his chest; Kutal falls next to the foe. Lanancuras stops before Mushra, nose to nose. He asks Mushra if the Enterran knows why Yakumo brought the three of them here. She had hoped that they could combine their powers to create Mushrambo and that Mushrambo could vanquish him, the Kadrian explains. "But Mushrambo never appeared. Why?" With that question, the Kadrian punches into Mushra's chest and withdraws his crystal. "Because I control the power of the Guardians crystals!"

In his palm is Mushra's crystal. The Enterran plummets to the earth, landing prostrate beside the others. Sago and Kutal's crystals come to Lanancuras's hand. They combine with Mushra's crystal to form Mushrambo's En card. Lanancuras admits that Mushrambo is the only being on the planet who might have had the power to stop him. To prevent that, Lanancuras burns Mushrambo's card. With Yakumo and Mushrambo gone, the three Enterrans have no hope of defeating Lanancuras even in their hyperforms.

Determined to end the battle, the Kadrian delivers a punishing blow to Sago then goes to stomp on Mushra. Mushra temporarily holds off Lanancuras's foot, but the Kadrian breaks free and lands on the Enterran driving him into the crater created by the pressure of his foot.

Ever since Yakumo's passing at the Shinzo ruins, Binka has been running back to the battle zone to deliver the sad news. She arrives in time to see Lanancuras crushing Mushra's head with one foot while he holds Sago and Kutal in the air by their skulls. The time for silly games is over, he tells the three, time for them to meet their dooms. Red and black lightening surround his victims, electrifying them. In his pain, Mushra has one last vision of Yakumo as she saved him at the waterfalls. She never gave up on him. He will never give up on her.

From her vantagepoint on a cliff top, Binka tearfully tells the guys that Hakuba said Yakumo is dead. It's over. Yet the guys feel something besides the electricity surging through their bodies. Kutal believes that Yakumo is not gone. She's here. Sago feels this too; she's inside each one of them forever. Mushra knows she's still alive; he can feel her trying to help them.

At Shinzo, Yakumo's pendant glows once more. She is with them. White light surrounds each Enterran blocking Lanancuras's electricity. The Kadrian senses Yakumo's power. Realizing that she is still alive, he retreats as the white light joins together to form a protective dome around the Enterrans and streams in a column reaching to the sky. Lanancuras is impressed that Yakumo has used the last of her strength to save her friends, but he has already destroyed Mushrambo's En card. The warrior will never exist again.

Yakumo summons power from the very air with a mystic chant. "Awaken, my valiant warrior. Within your veins flow the waters of life, in your heart dwells the courage of a lion, rising out of the flames of destruction, you are the phoenix of Enterra. Therefore awaken and once again show that you are the greatest warrior of Enterra!"

Watching from afar, Binka sees the energies Yakumo has brought forth coalesce into a beam of pure light the yields Mushrambo's restored En card. The card flies to the column of light that has been protecting the Enterrans. Each Enterran flies from the ground to join the card. The three reach for the card, merging with it and each other. The resurrection begins.

A new voice commands Lanancuras to surrender. Mushrambo stands reborn atop an outcrop. Finally able to meet Mushrambo, Lanancuras displays his awesome power. The ground quakes;, volcanoes spring up,; lava flows erupt around the warrior. Lanancuras is prepared to battle. The episode ends with Mushrambo's realization that Lanancuras is the most powerful opponent he has ever faced. Only one of them will survive this battle.

Comments

1) The flashback sequence between Kutal and Yakumo comes from the second episode of the first season, Bee-Ware the Hunters, where Yakumo ties a bandage around a cut on Kutal's arm. The flashback sequence between Yakumo and Sago comes from the fist episode of the first seasons, The Awakening. This sequence was cut from the US version when episodes 1 and 2 were combined into a single episode. In the flashback, Yakumo and Sago are walking down a city ally beside Hakuba. Yakumo asks Sago what Mushra is up to now. Sago's response is unintelligible, but whatever he says, it's obvious he's lying. To cover himself, Sago shoots a small water spray from his fingertip causing Yakumo to burst into laughter. Mushra's flashback is completely unfamiliar to me. I don't know if it's from an eliminated sequence in season 1 or if it was created new for this episode. I have problems with the guys remembering events with Yakumo from the first season. I think it violates the concept of the parallel universes established in the last episode. Personal memories from one universe shouldn't cross over to the memories of people in another universe. Although the episode does not explain or even hint at this idea, I prefer that the idea that Yakumo's passing shares *her* memories of the other universe with the guys' minds. In this theory, the memories the guys are experiencing are actually psychically shared Yakumo memories with their analysis of the memories serving as the voice over commentary.

2) When Lanancuras rips the crystals from the guys' bodies, why don't they return to normal form? If the crystals are what gives the guys the power to hyperform, why do they remain hyperformed with the crystals gone?

3) Setting aside the complaints of the inconsistencies in how the dimensional timelines are handled, this was one exciting episode. Yakumo's seeming death, Mushrambo's temporarily demise before he's even created, the battle scenes, the slow restoration of Lanancuras's full power, all combine to make this a walloping good time. Especially if you like fight scenes heightened by emotional torment.

Mushrambo Meets His Match

Awesome summary and comments written by LKK. Thank you!

The episode opens with Lanancuras and Mushrambo facing off. Binka watches them from the top of a nearby cliff. Meanwhile Yakumo lies unconscious within Hakuba at the Shinzo ruins. Hakuba worries that even though Mushrambo is the only Enterran strong enough to challenge Lanancuras, he might not be strong enough to defeat the Kadrian.

At the battle scene, Mushrambo attacks first with a series of rapid sword swipes. Lanancuras responds with several punches. Neither does any damage to their opponent. Mushrambo backs Lanancuras to the edge of an overhang. The warrior slices the overhang; Lanancuras falls into the lava pit below. Unharmed, Lanancuras flies into the air with Mushrambo following him. The two meet in a massive mid-air collision that rocks the ground below. Binka falls off the cliff but is saved by the turtlemobile. Looking up, she sees the combatants separate; neither is hurt.

Leaving the Shinzo ruins, Hakuba flies Yakumo to the battlefield so that she can be in position to help Mushrambo in his fight.

Mushrambo and Lanancuras circle each other exchanging blows. They are evenly matched until Lanancuras causes a volcanic eruption. The lava flows upward and into the Kadrian's abdomen. The midsection of his body curls open to reveal a dark pit within him. The lava enters the pit. Lanancuras glows with the energy he has absorbed from the lava and then attacks Mushrambo with this new power. Binka leaps from the turtlemobile to launch a bazooka attack at the Kadrian temporarily halting this latest attack on the Enterran warrior.

Recovered, Mushrambo faces off with Lanancuras again. Battling the Kadrian, Mushrambo drives him back to the edge of another overhang. Once again, the Kadrian goes over the edge into the lava pit below, but this time, Mushrambo goes with him. The combined energy from both the combatants in the lava pit causes volcanic explosions across the globe. The turtlemobile rescues Binka again, flying her to safety. When she returns to look for Mushrambo, the ground quakes, a beam of light erupts from the ground towards the sky. In the air, the fighters separate and face off again. Neither has been seriously harmed.

Still racing to the battlefield, Hakuba is worried. Lanancuras can be merciless when he has the advantage, and Hakuba fears that Mushrambo is in trouble. Binka is beginning to worry as well. She had thought that Mushrambo was invincible, but she is no longer certain that the warrior can defeat this opponent.

Fighting hand to hand, Lanancuras manages to grab Mushrambo's sword, shattering it and some of Mushrambo's confidence. Taking advantage of the situation, Lanancuras delivers several punishing blows. The last one throws Mushrambo to the ground in a nearby pit where he lies dazed and helpless. Semi-conscious Mushrambo thinks of Yakumo and how she risked her life to help him. Yet now, he has failed her. Beside his body is a small patch of the Enterran flowers of hope. Yakumo is the most precious flower on Enterra, Mushrambo realizes, and though he could never say it, he loves her. Memories of Yakumo by the riverside filling a glass with water for the Enterran flower of hope come back to him. Yakumo loved the flower of hope. And he would do anything to keep her hope alive. Mushrambo thinks back to how he, as Mushra, went in search of another flower of hope to give to Yakumo after the first one was lost. Then he remembers the sight of Yakumo, unconscious within Hakuba, his flower in her hands. He cannot bear the thought that Yakumo's hop for a peaceful world is in vain. He must fight on.

Above the fallen warrior, a cliff top is sliced in half and slides down revealing Lanancuras. The Kadrian announces Mushrambo's time is up. In the pit below, Mushrambo tries to stand but is only able to move his fingers. Striding down the cliff side and over to Mushrambo, Lanancuras steps on the flower of hope beside Mushrambo, destroying it. Lanancuras repeatedly kicks the warrior, reveling in his torture. Focusing on the remains of the flower of hope's petals, Mushrambo knows he cannot lose hope. Drawing on his inner strength, he grabs the Kadrian's boot as Lanancuras goes from the final kick. Surprised, Lanancuras pulls back but only temporarily. Mushrambo manages to get up despite the blow, seemingly reenergized. He attacks the Kadrian, but one blow from Lanancuras sends Mushrambo to the ground again. The Enterran is completely unconscious.

Nearby, Binka is in tears. She cannot believe that what is happening is real. She cries out to Mushrambo, begging for him to fight on. He's Enterra's last hope. Without him, there is no one to help the planet. "Not true," says a voice from behind the girl. Hakuba has finally arrived with Yakumo. The robot explains that while Yakumo's body may be in suspended animation, her mind and spirit are still alive. She is acting as a conduit for the power of the Guardians of Shinzo. And the Guardians have a plan. Binka wonders if Hakuba will join the fight, but the robot informs her that it is a protector not a fighter. Five hundred years ago, it explains, Yakumo's father placed the young Yakumo in suspended animation. After the meteorite carrying Lanancuras hit the Earth, the Enterrans attacked and almost wiped out the humans. Yakumo's father hoped that the meteorite within Yakumo would enable her to bring peace to the world. Hakuba tells Binka that the Celestial Guardians implanted this hope and the concept of Shinzo was in Yakumo's father's mind. Each encounter Yakumo has experienced has been to prepare her for her ultimate confrontation with Lanancuras. With every challenge, her powers have awakened and grown. Yakumo is the chosen one from Earth and has been groomed for this task all her life.

Hakuba goes on to say that the Celestial Guardians split the essence of Mushrambo into three parts, believing that a divided Mushrambo would be less dangerous should he fall under the influence of Lanancuras. The Guardians secured Mushrambo's allegiance by exposing him to the pure goodness of Yakumo. Mushrambo's allegiance is no longer questionable, but whether he is strong enough to overcome the forces of darkness is still in doubt. At this point, Binka decides that Mushrambo needs her help and starts off to join him, but the robot stops her. She must stay here, Hakuba tells her, and let the Guardian's plan take effect.

Down at the battle scene, Lanancuras picks up Mushrambo's body, tosses it into the air, and attacks it with power beams from his eyes. Mushrambo's body collapses at the foot of a small cliff. Lanancuras has become bored with Mushrambo. There shall be no more time for the Enterran. The Kadrian's abdomen opens up again. This time, a swirling vortex of black gas acts as a whirlpool, pulling every loose thing in the surrounding environment towards the Kadrian. Mushrambo is dragged along the ground, unable to resist the vortex's pull. Binka and the turtlemobile are dragged towards the Kadrian as well. She calls to Hakuba for help. Grabbing her by its mouth, Hakuba places her safely in the turtlemobile and tells her to stay behind with Yakumo's body. Hakuba will implement the next stage in the Guardians' plan.

The power gauges within Hakuba begin to rise. The outside wings fold up. The robot's neck and abdomen separate from the pod holding Yakumo's body. The outside wings fold out again. Inside the pod, a green glow surrounds Yakumo. Hakuba, minus the pod, flies off.

Hakuba comes between Lanancuras and Mushrambo, startling the Kadrian and stopping the pull of the vortex. Floating in front of the Kadrian, Hakuba gives him a message. "This is your one and only warning. If you do not stop immediately, you risk your complete destruction." Inside the pod, the green glow surrounding Yakumo brightens. Her pendant glows, spreading its light outwards. When the two glows meet, they shoot upwards in a bright beam of light. At the apex of the light are the En cards that Yakumo has collected over time of the six Enterran generals. The cards fly to the battle scene and hover in front of Hakuba. Hakuba informs Lanancuras that the cards are the essence of the six kings and through Yakumo they will merge with Mushrambo, awakening his ultimate power -- a power that Lanancuras cannot resist.

The cards glow and shoot skywards. Hakuba rises to join them. With the command, "En card fusion!", Hakuba absorbs the cards. Through the white light, the form of a winged horse can be seen. The horse of light descends on Mushrambo who stands to greet it. As the light recedes, the horse has become a sword with a jeweled hilt. And Mushrambo is in his golden form.

Lanancuras is stunned. The Reversion Blade that Mushrambo now wields hasn't been activated in five hundred years. Still, Lanancuras refuses to surrender. Once again, he summons the black vortex from his abdomen. Rather than resist its pull, Mushrambo rushes towards the Kadrian and is sucked inside his body. Floating inside the king, Mushrambo knows that Lanancuras has made a serious mistake. The greatest enemy is the enemy within. Mushrambo begins to slice Lanancuras from the inside with the Reversion Blade. For the first time, Lanancuras is truly afraid. The warrior is slicing the very fabric of space and time within him. With one final slice at Lanancuras's back, Mushrambo escapes.

Lanancuras vows that Mushrambo has not seen the last of him. An empty threat, Mushrambo responds, since Lanancuras's body is about to be scattered to the four winds. Mushrambo slices Lanancuras once more. His body erupts in an expanding mushroom cloud of color. In the turtlemobile Binka flies away to safety followed soon by Mushrambo carrying the pod holding Yakumo's body.

Later as the morning sun rises to the top of a cliff, Binka and the guys -- now in normal form with their crystals returned to them -- hold a vigil by Yakumo's pod. Binka is glad that Yakumo's prediction that Mushrambo would defeat Lanancuras and save the world came true. But she is heartbroken that Yakumo cannot enjoy the victory with them. Kutal says that Yakumo looks so peaceful in her rest. He keeps thinking that she will wake up any minute. Perhaps it's better if she rests, Sago tells him. Perhaps the Guardians will restore her to them as she was. She deserves to have a life free of such responsibilities. Binka calls to Mushra to come say his final goodbye to Yakumo. Mushra is heartsick by her loss. He can't even bear to look at her. What good is it to save the world, if he couldn't save Yakumo as well? They had fought so hard to defeat Lanancuras. Yet their victory feels meaningless because Yakumo can't share in it. Mushra is certain that he and Yakumo are meant to be together. He needs to get her to wake up somehow.

Caught up in Mushra's grief, no one notices that the Reversion Blade has begun to glow in warning. Black cloudy streaks began to swirl towards the sun. Seismic quakes rock the countryside. A huge shadowy form rises before the cliff. The shadow shapes forms into a giant-sized Lanancuras. His abdomen opens; the black vortex begins to pull everyone towards it. Binka is almost swallowed up; however, Sago grabs her hand and pulls her back just in time. Kutal is saved by a rock that he ends up straddling. Mushra holds unto Yakumo's pod. Unfortunately, Lanancuras has singled that out for absorption. He plans to ingest Yakumo -- the source of their power and the source of his annoyance. The pod is ripped from Mushra's grasp. Mushra looks up to see the pod disappear into Lanancuras's body. The episode ends with Mushra's furious declaration that he will get rid of Lanancuras once and for all.

Comments

1) Hakuba's story to Binka of Yakumo's history is accompanied by flashbacks of her father placing the infant in suspended animation. Next comes the scene of Yakumo rescuing the firefly child. Then we see Yakumo in Daku's cage. Gyasa turning Yakumo into stone follows that. Next we see Cadris in his hyperform and Rusephine absorbing the other general's cards. Finally, we see her face off with the Dark Lord Mushrambo. With the exception of the firefly child scene, all the scenes are from season 1 episodes. It's reasonable to assume that the firefly child scene is also from a season 1 episode instead of a scene created especially for Lanancuras Unbound. I wish I knew exactly which episode it came from. My guess is that the firefly child incident comes very early in season 1, possibly episode 1 or 2, but I don't know for sure.

2) Hakuba says that the Guardians decide to split Mushrambo's essence into 3 parts because a divided Mushrambo would be less dangerous if he fell under the influence of Lanancuras. The robot's statement is made over a flashback from A Battle of One where Yakumo holds the three crystals after Mushra, Sago, and Kutal have disappeared. This makes no sense within the logic of the story. Reason 1: the Dark Lord Mushrambo has already destroyed Enterra in timeline 1. It's a little too late to be worrying about Lanancuras's influence at that point. Reason 2: In timeline 2, Yakumo keeps the crystals with her at the Shinzo ruins until she gives them to Binka. There's no danger of Mushrambo being influenced by Lanancuras in this parallel universe.

3) How did the guys get their crystals back? The last we saw of them in Lanancuras Unbound, Lanancuras had ripped them from the trio's hyperforms, used the crystals to form Mushrambo's En card, and then destroyed the En card. Presumably the crystals were destroyed when the En card was destroyed. The most likely explanation is that when Yakumo used her powers to restore Mushrambo's En card, the crystals that were the essence of Mushrambo's power were restored as well. From that point, the crystals behaved as they had every other time Mushrambo was summoned. That's the best explanation I can come up with at this point.

Mushra's Mission

Awesome summary and comments written by LKK. Thank you!

The episode opens with Mushra and the others -- all in normal form -- facing the giant-sized Lanancuras. Mushra is determined to destroy the Kadrian king, but he knows he must be cautious because Lanancuras has ingested Yakumo. Mushra goes for the Reversion Blade and pulls it from the ground. As he does so, a lightening bolt strikes the blade energizing it. Mushra calls upon the power of the Guardian card to help power the blade. Sago and Kutal rush to help, transforming into their hypermodes on the way.

Dragging the Reversion Blade behind him, Mushra advances towards Lanancuras. The Enterran swings the blade up and strikes the ground at Lanancuras's feet. The Kadrian jumps out of the way and is unharmed by the blow. Mushra advances and strikes the ground again. After Mushra's third attempt, Lanancuras pins Mushra against a cliff wall. Then the Kadrian shoves Mushra, sending him through the cliff wall and through several cliffs behind the first one. Sago and Kutal fly to check on Enterran and are stunned to see a little harmed Mushra -- still in normal form -- flying past them. Sago is the first to realize that Mushra is now more powerful in his normal form than he is when in hypermode.

Mushra reaches Lanancuras and once again strikes the ground at his feet with the Reversion Blade. Lanancuras marvels that Mushra is now more powerful than before. Watching, Sago and Kutal sense the Kadrian's doubt. Perhaps his doubt will give Mushra a chance of winning the battle. Mushra continues his attacks on the Kadrian who retreats at every blow. The watching HyperEnterrans realize that the Reversion Blade is the only thing Lanancuras fears. That fear is throwing Lanancuras off balance. If Mushra keeps up the pressure, he might succeed.

As Mushra raises the blade for one final blow, he warns the Kadrian that his time on Enterra is over. But Lanancuras is quick to remind him that he is ignoring history. Warned, Mushra sets the blade aside. Flames rise up around the Enterran. Lanancuras realizes that the Celestial Guardians are empowering Mushra and starts to worry about the Enterran's increasing power. Lanancuras shoots a bolt of power at the fearsome Enterran who is marching towards the Kadrian. To help protect Mushra, Kutal splits the earth in front of his friend, hoping the fissures will absorb some of the Kadrian's attack. Lanancuras's bolt bounces off Masher's protective flames. The Kadrian decides to ingest the Celestial Guardians' errand boy. His abdomen opens up in preparation to absorb Mushra. Sago shoots a water blast at Lanancuras to divert him. Angry that the others are interfering with his battle against Mushra, Lanancuras blasts Kutal and Sago, crushing them against a cliff wall. The blast also knocks Binka, watching from a distant cliff top, off of her feet.

Mushra has finally reached Lanancuras. He leaps into the air and slices at the Kadrian's helmet, damaging it. While Mushra recovers from his efforts, Kutal and Sago rejoin the fight. Each one grabs one of Lanancuras's shoulders. As Lanancuras tries to know them off using ferocious winds to blow them away, Mushra leaps to the top of Lanancuras's head and slices downward for the length of the Kadrian's body. Back on the ground, Mushra and the others are stunned to see that the Reversion Blade has broken during the attack. Unfortunately, Lanancuras is unharmed. He strikes the ground with a jubilant blow. When the smoke clears from the powerful blast, Binka is horrified to see the Entreats lying unconscious on the ground. Kutal and Sago have been returned to normal form. Lanancuras realizes that the power of Yakumo residing within him has made him invincible.

The Enterrans awake to hear Lanancuras's gloating. Mushra swears that though the Reversion Blade may be broken, his spirit is not. Sago goads the Kadrian by pointing out that the more he fights Mushra, the stronger Mushra becomes. Lanancuras warns them that if they continue to fight, he will destroy them for good. But Mushra refuses to give up.

Lanancuras tries another tactic; he tries to raise their doubts. The Celestial Guardians have been unable to destroy him in the past, he points out, and perhaps they actually intend for him to rule Enterra. His ploy fails as the guys refuse to buy into the Kadrian's mind games. Lanancuras's words bring back memories of his first fight with the Celestial Guardians. He had conquered planets throughout the galaxy. Enterra was his next target. But one of the Celestial Guardians gave up his immortality to stop Lanancuras. The Kadrian's exile in space only happened because Mushrambo neutralized Lanancuras's power. Lanancuras was encased in fragments of the planets he had destroyed. Imprisoned in the meteor, the Kadrian crashed on Enterra.

Listening to the Kadrian's rant, the guys feel that he got what he deserved. Angered at their response, Lanancuras decide to end these games. He calls the Enterrans' crystal jewels to him and absorbs them in his helmet. Further empowered by the crystals, Lanancuras blasts the trio, throwing Sago and Kutal back several feet but leaving Mushra alone and untouched. Mushra stiffens as his body comes under Lanancuras's mind control. The Kadrian psychically lifts the Enterran until he is hovering before the giant's face. With his index finger, he pokes at the Enterran. Binka, Kutal, and Sago watch in horror as a sickening crunching sound is heard in the background. Lanancuras has removed Mushra's En card from his body. Mushra's lifeless form drops to the ground as Lanancuras crushes the En card between his fingers.

Hovering just beyond death, Mushra hears Yakumo calling to him. Now it is time Mushra to rest, she advises. But first he must make a choice. The Celestial Guardians will send another champion if Mushra wishes to rest. Mushra refuses to rest; he wants to defeat Lanancuras. Yakumo warns him that it's not as easy as he might think, but Mushra doesn't care. Yakumo tells him that his willingness to sacrifice himself is why the Celestial Guardians sent him to Enterra in the first place, but he must be patient now. Mushra tells her to let the Celestial Guardians know that he refuses to be patient. He wants to go back now.

At that point the Celestial Guardians decide to intervene. According to the Celestial Guardians, Lanancuras once lived among them, protecting the universe as they did. However, when Lanancuras's evil became too much for them to beat, Mushra provided the Celestial Guardians with a solution to the problem. With that statement, Mushra realizes that he was once a Celestial Guardian himself. Back then, Mushra made the ultimate choice, but what will he choose to do now, the Guardians ask. Mushra decides to return to Enterra to win.

Back on Enterra, a tearful Binka, Kutal, and Sago are shocked to see Mushra standing although he is unaware of his surroundings. Lanancuras can't believe his eyes either. In the far distance at the ruins of Shinzo, streaks of gold light stream upwards and to the battlefield. Lanancuras recognizes that this is no ordinary meteor shower; these lights are infused with the power of celestial beings. The streams converge on Mushra's body. Lanancuras realizes that the Celestial Guardians have brought Mushra back to life to defeat him.

Fearful at this development, Lanancuras remembers his entombment five hundred years ago. One by one, the Celestial Guardians joined forces with the one Celestial Guardian who would give up his immortality to imprison Lanancuras. Lanancuras couldn't stop them from joining together and forging the star-shaped Celestial En card that entombed him and cast him to drift in the meteor through the void of space. His time in the meteor was nightmarish. But fate twisted, and he was given a reprieve. The meteor hit Enterra. The Celestial Guardians gave their powers to Mushrambo and to Yakumo who proved to be worthy protectors of the planet. But no one could stop the Enterran war that the Kadrian secretly started. Lanancuras wanted to rid Enterra of all humans, especially Yakumo. Lanancuras secretly commanded the six Enterran generals. They all tried to stop Mushra in his hyperform, but because he had the essence of Mushrambo within him, they all failed. So Lanancuras tried a different, easier target. He tried to get Mushrambo himself to eliminate Yakumo by destroying the Shinzo city where the young Yakumo was hiding. However, that plan failed as well. Lanancuras had personally selected Mushrambo for this task, infecting him with Lanancuras's evil power. But when the time came for Mushrambo to kill the young Yakumo, Mushra, Sago, and Kutal stopped him. All of Lanancuras's Enterran vassals failed in their efforts to stop the trio. But now that Lanancuras has the trio's crystals, he will destroy the three that his vassals could not.

Mushra, now fully revived, interrupts Lanancuras's remembrances. He informs the Kadrian that his day of reckoning is now. The Celestial Guardians have spoken. At Mushra's command, "En card fusion!", power explodes from the Enterran, blinding the onlookers. When the light fades, Mushra -- clothed in a new uniform and holding his javelin -- stands ready to take on the Kadrian again. The episode ends as Yakumo's voice comes from the star-shaped Guardian card warning Mushra to be careful because the fate of Enterra hangs in the balance.

Comments

1) Some European web sites have a screen shot of Lanancuras's finger poking through Mushra's body. US editors must have felt the image was too graphic for American audiences because that shot does not appear in this episode. All we get is a crunching sound in the background as we watch Binka, Kutal, and Sago look on.

2) I think I've lost count of how many versions of Enterra's history have been presented. Each version differs from the previous one. I get the feeling that no one sat down and tried to come up with a single comprehensive idea as to how the two timelines meshed. Instead we get a half-dozen stories with contradictory information.

3) Mushra new uniform is a variant of his regular wear. Before his shirt had short-sleeves where this one has long sleeves. Previously, only one boot reached his knees, now they both do. The shoulder pads have expanded. Similar-looking pads have been added to his waistband. His new outfit finally looks complete compared to the old one.
