I wrote, under Ayame’s transformation: (like Yuri, she was still constantly shadowed)

I should have written: (like the other girl, she was still constantly shadowed)

And, I can NOT believe it. I’m writing this at about 7:55 PM when there are only 5 days till Christmas, completely neglecting my Christmas story, which I doubt I’ll have done by the actual holidays. Sorry. EVIL writer’s block!

Chapter 2: A Flower Blooms!

Kiku had expected some heat when she got to school, but she sure hadn’t expected three weeks of detention! It hadn’t really shocked her that much, but being the drama queen she was, she staggered backwards and tripped over a huge stack of papers in front of Yuri’s desk. Now THAT surprised her, especially when she landed IN the stack of papers. “Whoa, what’s THAT?” some random alien girl cried out, pointing at Kiku’s head.

Kiku felt the top of her head. Pointed ears! Just like the ones from her dream! She could feel Yuri staring at her. She blushed, which apparently just made it worse. Something cream-colored with a small golden orb near the top flashed by her face, and she soon heard something tinkle behind her.

          Oh, great.

“Oh, did I leave my kachuku costume in there again?” she heard Ume say. The yellow alien was waving her arms around wildly, and it made Kiku and her ice blue-colored friend (that’s Yuri) sweatdrop.

“Oh yes! I think I’ll return it to you after school!” Yuri yelled back, equally loudly and sounding equally fake.

          I sure hope it’s only a costume!

Seeing it as the only logical thing to do, Kiku looked around, then dove into the stack of papers. “Stupid ears!” she whispered, holding her head. No doubt about it – they were real!

          So it wasn’t a dream.

Suddenly there was a small popping noise and Kiku could no longer feel her ears. Feeling the sides of her head, she felt her own normal, small pointed ears. (Girl aliens have about the same size ears as humans, but they still have points.) She was about to surface from the stack of papers when she heard the bell on her tail tinkle. It was getting pretty hard to breathe, which only made her more excited! She’d figured out that since the ears and tail appeared when she’d gotten excited, that had something to do with it.

Kiku thought calming thoughts, and after a while heard a pop and could no longer hear the bell. She jumped up from the stack of papers, breathing heavily. “Ume, you really need to stop leaving your costumes in there!” she said. “I spent like ten minutes down there trying to get it off!” Apparently, it was a good enough cover, because none of the aliens were staring at her anymore.

Yuri then threw a note at her head. Kiku opened and read the note, which said:

Kiku,

Get Ume and meet me after school. Something weird is going on with us.

Yuri

And so, after school, Yuri, Ume and Kiku met up to talk behind the school. “This is serious,” Yuri whispered. “We… we really are Crystal Mew Mew!”

“I thought it was only a dream,” Ume whispered back, “but I guess not.”

“We need to find Sakura and Ayame,” Kiku said. “Yuri, I vote you for leader of Crystal Mew Mew.”

Ume and Yuri huddled up and whispered together for a few seconds, then surfaced and smiled. “Kiku, we officially declare you leader of Crystal Mew Mew!” Ume announced.

“Yeah! You would make a great leader!” Yuri added. “Me, I can’t get my little sister to do what I say! You’re really caring, too. Who else would bother to bring a sandwich every day for my brother?”

“And unlike me, you’re not scared of your power,” Ume continued.

“Wait a minute, Ume, who says I’m not scared? I’m petrified! I couldn’t lead the Mew Mews. And Yuri, I can’t lead anybody, and I only bring a sandwich for Kinmouka-san because nobody else does!”

“See? That just PROVES it – how caring you are!” Yuri shot back. “Ume only meant the whole fire thing, and we’re your best friends, so of course we’ll listen to you. And Ayame and Sakura would be CRAZY not to, because you’re a GREAT leader!”

Kiku sighed. It was clear she wasn’t going to win THIS battle. “Okay, okay! I’ll be the leader of Crystal Mew Mew! ARE YOU HAPPY?”

Ume and Yuri looked at each other, then back at Kiku. “Yes!”

Suddenly, the Mew Mews heard a scream. They ran out from behind the school to see a human in a bulldozer, trying to knock over a huge cherry tree the Tokyo Mew Mews had given them! That was bad enough, but Kiku saw that the bulldozer was about to run over a helpless silkblossom! With the human was a huge Chimera Anima in the shape of a flying snake. Had the humans gotten control of the Anima they’d left behind?

“What did the Tokyo Mew Mews say to transform?” she asked the others. Since the aliens and Mew Mews were friends now, they’d learned quite a bit about them in school – but unfortunately, Kiku had slept through most of that class (Ume and Yuri loved it).

“Well, I remember Mew Ichigo said Mew Mew Strawberry Metamorphosis. I think all of them said their food,” said Ume.

“Ugh, boring,” sighed Kiku.

“I think so too,” agreed Yuri. “Let’s try and flash it up a bit!”

“Like how?” asked Ume.

“Like this,” said Kiku, stepping forward. It was a really good thing they were too far away for the human to notice, or he would have surely figured out their secret identities. “Mew Mew love, Mew Mew heart, Mew Mew Chrysanthemum power start!” (Does it matter this is based of Mew Mew Power?)

The next thing Kiku knew, she was a Mew Mew – the cream colored ears and tail, the yellow dress, everything – just like she’d been in her dream.

“My turn!” cried Ume. “Mew Mew fire, Mew Mew dance, Mew Mew Plum power chance!”

After Ume had transformed, it was Yuri’s turn. (I’m almost tempted to make it ‘Mew Mew style, Mew Mew grace, Mew Mew Lilly power in your face’, but I won’t) “Mew Mew song, Mew Mew care, Mew Mew Lilly power flair!” After she had transformed, the Crystal Mew Mews sprung into action.

“Stop!” cried Kiku. “Don’t you know what you’re doing?”

“Mew Chrysanthemum’s right!” Ume added. “That’s the only tree like that we have on this planet!”

“Mew Plum left one thing out,” Yuri put in. “And Mew Lilly would like to let you know, that silkblossom’s really rare too!”

“Who ARE you?” the man called out, stopping the bulldozer. His Chimera Anima hissed. Kiku was a little startled, though, when the man got out of his bulldozer. He WASN’T a man, he was just a kid, probably about Kiku’s age.

Bun even though she recoiled a bit and was still getting over the shock, Kiku managed to say, “We are Crystal Mew Mew! As for our names, weren’t you listening? If not, I am Mew Chrysanthemum!”

“I’m Mew Plum!”

“And I’m Mew Lilly!”

“More importantly, leave our planet alone!” Kiku cried, pointing at the boy, hoping it was threateningly. “And WHY do you have a Chimera Anima?”

“One, no, two, why are you POINTING at me?” Kiku, still pointing, sweatdropped. “And three, to deal with aliens like you!”

“Don’t you realize that if you weren’t around, we would be his masters?” Yuri asked calmly. Then, less calmly, she whispered to the others, “So what do we do know?”

“No idea,” Ume and Kiku whispered back.

“Sic ‘em, boy!” the boy called, and his Chimera Anima flew towards the Mews, jaws open wide.

“Chrysantherod!” Kiku cried out, and a pink rod topped with an ice blue crystal chrysanthemum appeared in her hands. “Star Chrysanthemum Check!” she cried, and a blinding white light came out of the crystal on the rod. The other Mew Mews looked away, but Kiku just squinted and looked through the light. The Chimera Anima was screaming horribly through the attack and soon it turned into an Earth snake, and a jellyfish-shaped alien flew out of it. The particular species didn’t actually have a name; everyone just called them Infusers. “Okay, WHAT was THAT?” she wondered as both the snake and the Infuser went away into the wild.

“I-I’ll get you, Mew Chrysanthemum!” the boy cried, running off. “And don’t you forget it!”

Kiku put her arms down to her side, letting her newfound weapon dangle. She had a look of pure shock on her face for a while, then called back, “Yeah? Well, we’ll just see about that!”

To be continued…
