Would you enjoy a good Shoujo, magical girl anime with enough bishi-ness that would cause even a non-fangirl to squeal? Did you love to watch Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor Sakura, or Mysterious Thief Saint Tail? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you're gonna love Tokyo Mew Mew (a.k.a. Mew Mew Power). This 52 episode series aired in Japan from April, 2002 until March, 2003 and is based off the popular seven volume manga by Mia Ikumi and Reiko Yoshida. (I highly recommend the manga, which has been translated and presented in English by Tokyopop. Both Ms. Ikumi and Ms. Yoshida add background notes and other interesting facts to each volume.)

The following explains what Tokyo Mew Mew is all about:
Earth is a beautiful in natural resources and the home of millions of living species. However, over the years already 2500 of these species have become extinct. Humans are taking for granted what the Earth has to offer. They have become selfish, destroying nature to build polluted cities. Other planets are not so lucky. Their inhabitants envy the selfish humans and want the Earth for themselves. These aliens can use the condensed DNA of animals and combine them with a life spirit to create powerful Chimera animals. (Similar to Sailor Moon, the aliens would need to acquire a pure spirit in order to create the ultimate Chimera animal.) Enter Ryou Shirogane and Keiichiro Akasaka, who are aware of the alien plot. The two come up with their own means of destroying the Chimera animals and call it the Mew project. Five young girls are fused with the genes of a specific endangered species giving them super human powers. These girls will rise up against the alien threat and stand up for every living creature!

Tokyo Mew Mew is an entertaining (never boring) anime series that will have you hooked after the very first episode. The character designs and series detail is gorgeous. Not to mention, one can learn about protecting our environment in real life. Let's keep the Earth beautiful and show these aliens (hey, ya never know) we appreciate our Planet (^_^).

It's Showtime!!!
