Episode 22: The Defeated

Captain Levi and Mikasa continue to follow the Female Titan. Their plan is to have Mikasa draw attention while Levi hacks away at her in an effort to retrieve Eren.
Levi is so fast, the Female Titan doesn't have time to react. When her nape is wide open, Mikasa goes for the kill forgetting their objective. Captain Levi pushes Mikasa away from danger, but injures his ankle in the process. That doesn't slow him down as he continues to cut away at the mouth area until he can grab a saliva covered Eren.
Later the Survey Corps are preparing to head back. The plan was unsuccessful and many were killed. They've gathered the bodies and placed them on the wagons. Those who could not be recovered were listed as MIA (missing in action). Two friends of one of those soldiers want to go back and retrieve the body. Erwin orders them not to as the area was surrounded by Titans.
The wagons swiftly head back when suddenly Titans are spotted! Disobeying Commander Erwin's orders, the two went to retrieve their friend and now the Titans are after them. To slow down the Titans and speed up the wagons, Armin suggests they toss the bodies.
Back within the safety of the walls, crowds have gathered. The returning Survey Corp members can only hang their heads in defeat. Eren has awakened and sobs feeling the frustration of his own failure.
