NOTE: If reading the Boruto manga, you are aware that this particular episode is in the 1st volume. You could say that this is not only about the birth of Mitsuki, but of his coming of age.
Mitsuki wakes up in Orochimaru's lab with no memories of his past or how he got there. He is told that his memories were stolen by a particular masked shinobi during battle. Orochimaru tells the boy that he/she is his parent. Of course, Mitsuki isn't sure if he/she is his father or mother. Orochimaru reiterates that it really doesn't matter, and the first order of business is to retrieve his memories.
Later, Orochimaru and Mitsuki break into the shinobi's lair. They encounter the man and a fight ensues. Orochimaru prevails with his snake poison. He tells Mitsuki to look after the man while he retrieves a scroll and key. Once alone, the man convinces Mitsuki to remove his mask. Upon doing so, Mitsuki is shocked to be looking at an older version of himself.
Once Orochimaru returns, the two men argue about the creation of artificial beings. Each man wanting Mitsuki to join their side. Mitsuki transforms into sage mode and grabs the scroll and key from Orochimaru's hands and escapes.
Once the child is gone, the two men seem satisfied with the result. Mitsuki has achieved sage mode on the sixth try and made a decision on his own. This was just one big charade put on by Orochimaru and the older Mitsuki.
Elsewhere, Mitsuki opens the scroll and reads an article. He makes the choice to follow Boruto, the boy in the article. Will Boruto be the sun that Mitsuki seeks?
