Boruto and Shikadai confront Gekko and Ryogi on the train. "Checkmate," Shikadai says.

Ryogi protects Gekko from Boruto's shurikens, and Shikadai wonders why he protects such a thief. Ryogi loyally explains that Gekko saved his life. (Little does he know, but Gekko has had the boy under his genjutsu for quite some time.) Ryogi imprisons the boys using ice castle: crystal wall. When viewing his reflection in the ice, Boruto falls under Gekko's genjutsu. After a fight ensues, Shikadai is able to snap his friend out of it.

When the boys break free of the ice castle, Gekko escapes while sending Ryogi to do his dirty work. With Gekko's genjutsu affecting him, Ryogi begins to go crazy sending his chakra out of control. Boruto and Shikadai work together to calm Ryogi and snap him out of the genjutsu.

Once things settle down, the boys realize that Gekko has gotten away. Not for long! Naruto zips by and stops Gekko in his tracks (literally!).

Later, Boruto returns Katasuke's scroll. Elsewhere Ryogi ponders his life while sitting in a prison cell.
