People are mysteriously disappearing at night at a local town. Ruli receives a plea for help on her Lirurun account. She gathers Hiro and Kiyoshiro to help her investigate.
Once they arrive at the town, they meet Miori, whose asked for Ruli's help to find her sister. She believes an oni (spirit) has taken her. She explains that some have managed to get away.
Hiro and the others begin to retrace the steps taken by Miori's older sister Misaki before she went missing. While doing so, they come to a crossing where the boys are forced to take a different path than the girls. In doing so, they are approached by a red Oboromon, who asked them to show him something red. If they can't, the red Oboromon stabs them with his sword and sends them into a red floating whirlpool to link up with other humans.
Unfortunately, Hiro is stabbed and captured by the red Oboromon. Gammamon charges at the attacking digimon, but it is too strong! Watching all this Kiyoshiro goes into integer overflow. Thankfully, Jellymon returns and charges him back to consciousness. This time he is in brave mode. Using his genius, he contacts Ruli to explain what red Oboromon and the other color Oboromon are looking for.
Even with Angoramon's evolution, he cannot protect Ruli from getting caught. Turns out that at midnight, the game ends. The Oboromon (red, blue, green, yellow, and black) with the most humans on a chain becomes King. The human's are transformed into a scarf around the king's neck.
Gammamon has been beaten and even stabbed trying to save Hiro. His anger begins to take control. Gammamon evolves to Gulusgammamon!! He pierces the red Oboromon to data and eats the colors of the other Oboromon. The scarf is destroyed and humans are returned to normal...Hiro included.
Shocked by the appearance of Gulusgammamon, Hiro orders him to stop. Gulus de-evolves to a sleeping Gammamon.
Not far off, another digimon is watching everything that transpired.
