Inuyasha: The Prophecies

By: Guardian Angel

Chapter Twelve

Anna, Sharon, Kagome, Albert, and Talon all let out a sigh as Inuyasha and Koga continued arguing.

“I’m going inside. I need to check on my brother,” Anna said and stood up. She then went inside the house and went to the living room to see Kyle lying down on a couch asleep with a wet cloth on his forehead. Anna kneeled down in front of him putting her hands in her lap as she looked down at them and tears began to fill her eyes. “I’m sorry, Kyle. I tried to protect you, I really did. But I won’t fail you this time now that we’re back together.” She looked out the window to see Kagome finally breaking Inuyasha and Koga up. She smiled. “But we have friends and they’ll help us out.”

“So, where am I going to sleep?” Nina asked. She and Inukai were now in Inukai’s room.

Inukai crossed his arms as he sat down on the bed and smirked. “I don’t mind you sleeping with me.”

“You hentai!” Nina cried giggling as she threw a pillow at Inukai hitting him in the face.

Inukai playfully growled and threw a pillow at her. Nina ducked.

“Ha! You missed!” Nina cried out victoriously, but soon felt a pillow hit her face.

Soon, she and Inukai were having a pillow fight. Inukai smiled as his pillow hit Nina’s own pillow that almost hit one of his dog-ears.

I want this. I need this. And I get to have this, Inukai thought his smile widening as Nina continued giggling.

You are such a hentai, Nina thought.

Inukai quickly cursed. I forgot she could hear my thoughts.

Nina quickly hit Inukai on the top of the head causing him to fall face flat to the ground. She let out another giggle despite her trying to hold it back.

“Inukai, are you okay?” Nina asked kneeling down beside him.

Inukai got up and crossed his arms keeping his gaze away from Nina. “Feh. Nona of that hurt.” However, he felt Nina put a hand on one of his ears and began stroking it.

“You sure I didn’t hurt you?” Nina asked concern making its way across her features. “I mean, I didn’t hurt your ears, did I?”

Inukai was going to answer her, but a loud purr erupted from his chest startling both her and him.

“Umm… Inukai?” Nina questioned nervously. “Is that supposed to happen?”

Inukai laid his head down in her lap and said, “Don’t worry about it.”

Nina’s face turned a light red when Inukai did this, but she smiled and continued massaging his ear. Inukai’s purrs became louder as he closed his eyes falling into a light slumber. Nina’s smile widened.

Aww, he looks like such a cute puppy like this, Nina thought.

Oh, please, the dark voice said.

Nina groaned. Can’t you ever just leave me alone?

Nope, the voice said in a tone that was made to annoy Nina.

                                    Nina rolled her eyes. Whatever.

Inukai let out a low growl startling Nina.

“Inukai? What is it? Is something wrong?” Nina asked as her face filled with concern again.

Of course something’s wrong, Inukai thought. He searched for her free hand keeping his eyes closed. As soon as he found her hand, he gave it a light squeeze trying to reassure her. That’s the voice that’s always bugging you, isn’t it?

Nina cheeks turned a rosy color as he did this and smiled shyly. “Y-yeah.”

Well, don’t listen to it, Inukai thought.

The voice grunted. Shut up, half breed! None of this concerns you!

Inukai let out a low growl, grabbed Nina’s hand that was still stroking his ear, opened his eyes, sat up, and glared at nothing or anyone in particular startling Nina. “Listen, you, if you were smart, you’d leave Nina the hell alone.”

And if you were smart then you would realize whom you’re speaking to, the voice said.

Nina growled. And if you were smart, you’d listen to Inukai.

And if you were smart, you’d leave because you’re right in your enemy’s territory, the voice said.

Inukai was about to say something when he began hearing several voices.

Hanyou, let her leave, a woman’s voice said.

Yeah. You have no chance with her whatsoever, a man’s voice said.

Unless you were human would you have even the slightest chance, an elderly woman’s voice said.

Just give up, another voice said.

Inukai looked towards Nina as disbelief filled his eyes.

Don’t look at her, another woman’s voice said.

She’s an angel and too pure for you to even look at, another voice said.

You’ll kill her by just looking at her, another one said.

Go back to where you came from.

                                    Or just leave.

You are unworthy to be within her presence.

                                    Her soul is from heaven.

                                    You’re lower than scum.

Unworthy to be within her presence.

                                    Leave.

                                    Leave, hanyou.

                                    Go, you filthy half-breed.

I’m staying here and there’s no way you’re making me leave, Nina thought.

Fine. Get yourself killed, the dark voice said.

Inukai won’t let me get killed! Nina retorted. He’ll protect me no matter what.

Until he gets himself killed, the voice said.

                                    And he won’t.

                                    How do you know?

Because I trust him. He won’t leave me behind.

                                    Or so you think.

Shut up! I’m not listening to you anymore! Nina then heard a cry and turned around to see Inukai holding his head in his hands.

                                    “Leave me alone!” Inukai cried.

“Wh-what?” Nina asked as worry made its way to her face. “Inukai, are you all right?” She put a hand on his arm.

“Don’t come near me!” Inukai shouted pushing her away from him.

“Inukai?” Nina questioned as fear mixed in with her concern.

“I said stay away!” Inukai yelled.

Nina tried going over to him again, but he pushed her away again.

“If I look at you, you’ll die,” Inukai said softly.

                                    “What?” Nina asked in disbelief.

“You’re going to die if I look at you,” Inukai said looking down at his feet.

“No, I’m not,” Nina said giving him a small smile. How she felt deep down inside was not what she was showing on the outside. She felt totally crushed knowing he didn’t want to look at her anymore.

“Yes, you will,” Inukai said releasing a low growl.

“No, I won’t!” Nina cried grabbing one of his hands.

Inukai looked down at her startled meeting her determined concerned fearful eyes.

Don’t look at her! Don’t even speak to her! a woman’s voice cried. You’ll kill her!

Inukai took his gaze away from her and instead looked down at their hands. He squeezed his eyes shut. Nina, please. I don’t want you to die.

I’m not going to die, Nina thought.

                                    Yes, you are, Inukai thought.

Nina let out a growl, took her hand away from Inukai, and slapped him.

Inukai’s eyes widened with surprise and put a hand over where she slapped him.

“Don’t be such a selfish, idiotic, jerk! Okay! I am not going to get killed just because you looked at me!” Nina shouted. She then muttered, “It’s not like you’re Medusa or anything.”

                                    Inukai sighed. “Nina, I-”

“Was it a mistake?” Nina asked.

“Wh-what?” Inukai asked as Nina’s eyes filled with sadness and hurt.

“The kiss, did you mean it? Was it supposed to happen? Or was it a mistake because you were thinking of Kayko?” Nina asked looking down at her feet, her hair hiding the tears that began to go down her face.

I don’t want to hurt her. But the only way to drive her away maybe just to lie to her, Inukai thought. “No, I didn’t mean to kiss you. It wasn’t supposed to happen. It was a mistake. I-I was thinking of Kayko. Sorry.”

“I-it’s okay,” Nina said still looking down at the ground. Right then and there, she wanted to curl up and cry. She couldn’t believe what Inukai had told her. “I-I gotta go.”

“Yeah,” Inukai said looking down at the ground.

                                    Nina left Inukai’s room.

Inukai let out a sigh as soon as Nina left closing the door behind her. He went over to his bed and lied down on it. He closed his eyes. I’m such an idiot. I can’t believe I got rid of the one person that I love the most. Inukai growled, sat up, and punched his lamp causing it to break. Idiot! Idiot! IDIOT!

Kanna raised an eyebrow when she heard stuff crashing against the walls and stuff breaking. She realized the noise was coming from Inukai’s room. She quickly went into her room, closed the door behind her, and looked down at her mirror as it began glowing. The mirror then showed Inukai throwing his dresser at the wall. Kanna’s eyes widened.

What is he doing? Kanna thought.

“Leave me alone!” Inukai cried throwing the drawers of his dresser at the wall followed by throwing the rest of his dresser at the wall.

You made her sad, a woman’s voice hissed.

“Shut up!” Inukai cried throwing a punch at the wall.

                                    It’s the truth, a man’s voice muttered.

“I don’t care,” Inukai cried and began tearing up his room letting out a long stream of curses that would even lift up the eyebrows of the dirtiest mouthed person.

Nina ran down the clod streets once again when she heard thunder. She looked up at the now cloudy sky and muttered, “The universe is so not fair to me. First, it makes it seem like Inukai is in love with me then it turns out he doesn’t then the sky decides it’s the perfect time to rain to match my mood.” She let out a growl of frustration and sarcastically said, “My life is just wonderful.” She then felt tears fill her eyes again threatening to come down. Nina held it back and continued running ignoring the stares of demons and enslaved humans. I have to get out of here. I can’t stand being here anymore. She remembered what Inukai had said and lowered her head, her hair covering her face. I can’t go back home. He’ll come to see me. I can’t bear to look at him anymore. I have to leave.

Albert sighed as he watched what ever it was that Max decided to watch on TV. “Where’s Nina?”

                                    “I don’t know,” Max said.

                                    “Why?”

“Because I can’t read her mind.”

                                    “Why?”

                                    “Because I don’t have telepathy.”

                                    “Why?”

“Because I wasn’t born with such powers.”

                                    “Why?”

“Because my mother was a human and my father was a wolf demon.”

                                    “Why?”

                                    “Because they were.”

                                    “Why?”

“Because that’s the way they were born.”

                                    “Why?”

“Because Dad’s parents were wolf demons and Mom’s were humans.”

                                    “Why?”

Max let out a sigh. “Because they were. Now will you quit it before I decide to hurt you.” Sheesh. Now I understand why Inukai can’t put up with this little brat. Though, I haven’t actually seen it myself, but Anna, Sharon, Kagome, and the others have told me enough stories about Inukai and Albert’s little fights.

Nina soon found herself in the airport. She had made her decision and decided not to bother to go home to pack her things. After all, Inukai might be there waiting for her and she really didn’t want to see him now, not after what he had told her. There was only one place she wanted to be at and that was in Tokyo, Japan since at least she’d be separated from Inukai in some thousand miles across the ocean where he wouldn’t be able to get to her unless he, too, came to Japan. She grunted. As if that was ever going to happen.

Why are things so complicated? I just want things back to the way they used to be. I want to go back to Feudal Japan. Back to the Go-Shinboku Tree, Nina thought. She went over to the counter and bought her ticket. She knew not many people took the airplanes anymore since most demons could fly and humans normally didn’t take the plane unless they were with their masters, otherwise, they’d get caught and put into jail where all human slaves stayed until a demon came and claimed them as their slave. Of course, I’m half demon so I maybe able to get to Japan without being made into a slave.

The intercom then began shouting. “Flight 61 ready for passengers. Flight 61, Tokyo, Japan, ready for passengers.”

Nina sighed and began going towards where her airplane was. Well, here goes nothing. There’s no turning back after this.

Inukai opened his eyes to see he had fallen unconscious. He sat up groaning as he rubbed his head and tried to remember what was the last thing he had done. Hmm, let’s see. Oh, yeah. I was a total jerk to Nina, that’s right. But how the hell did I pass out?!

“What a mess,” a voice suddenly said.

Inukai turned around to see Seth. “What do you want?!” Doesn’t anyone around here knock anymore?! He rolled his eyes. Sheesh.

“Whatever,” Seth said dully with his arms crossed observing Inukai’s trashed room. “It looks like there was a tornado here. What happened? Did you and that girl get angry about something that you felt you had to beat up your room as well?”

Inukai growled and brought up a clawed hand. “Shut up. I don’t have to listen to you. You don’t even know what you’re talking about.” He then observed his own room wondering just what did happen to it to make it so messy. And how in the world did I get knocked out. Nina left so it couldn’t have been her. But, then again, she probably came back for revenge and knocked me out then destroyed my room. He let out a low growl as his claws turned to fists. I can’t believe she betrayed me, just like Kayko. His eyes then widened. What am I saying?! Kayko didn’t betray me. Naraku just made it seem that way. He looked down at the ground as his eyes softened. And Nina, she would never do that. She’s too gentle to do anything of that sort. He sighed. I just wish she was back here with me where I can protect her and she can never leave my sight. His expression changed to one of determination. I have to find her and tell her the truth.

“You’re too late. She’s already gone out of your reach,” Seth said frowning as though he had read Inukai’s mind.

“What?! What do you mean?!” Inukai demanded feeling his blood freeze.

“I mean, your wench has left you. She’s left the country. And you want to know why? Because you broke her heart, you stupid hanyou,” Seth said. “You kiss her then turn around and tell her you kissed her because you thought she was Kayko.” Seth rolled his eyes. “Oh, yeah. That’s really smart. To make matters worse, the jewel is becoming overcome with darkness all because you told her that one simple thing which wasn’t even true at all because you’re just afraid of what could happen between you two. You told her it for yours and hers safety. You didn’t want both of you to get hurt the same way you and Kayko got hurt. Well, I have bad news for you. You both are hurting anyway. I’m surprised she’s lasted this long by the way you’ve been treating her. She’s definitely stronger than any half demon I’ve ever met. I bet if it was you, you wouldn’t have even made it as far as she has.”

Inukai growled his fangs biting into his lower lip drawing blood from it, but he didn’t care. He knew Seth was telling the truth, but didn’t want to admit it.

“Inukai, don’t think I’ve forgotten,” Seth said his expression softening something Inukai wasn’t used to seeing. “I remember perfectly well what happened a year ago. Everything that happened between you and Nina. Everything that happened when you fought Naraku. Everything.”

                                    “What?! How?!” Inukai demanded.

“You let me live, you idiot! I’m not reincarnated unlike some people,” Seth said.

“Oh, yeah! And, tell me, who has been reincarnated?!” Inukai cried.

“Kanna, Kagura, Riku, Kaede, the Shichinintai, Max maybe Miroku’s reincarnation even though he’s Koga’s descendant and Anna might not only be a descendant of Sango, but also her reincarnation. Kayko might be Kikyo’s reincarnation. And, as hard as it is to believe, if Kayko had really died that one day, Nina may have been her reincarnation. Albert might be Shippo’s reincarnation. Hiten and Manten have been reincarnated. Yura of the Hair has been reincarnated. Everyone you know might be the reincarnation of someone,” Seth said.

“None of that makes sense,” Inukai muttered. “Reincarnations and their incarnations can’t live in the same period of time. Meaning, Nina’s not Kayko’s reincarnation, Albert’s not Shippo’s reincarnation, and there’s no way Kayko can be Kikyo’s reincarnation since Kagome is.”

Seth let out a growl not liking the fact that his younger brother sounded more intelligent than him. He regained his composure and said, “You know, if you were planning on going after your wench, I’d say you’re too late because I believe her plane has taken off.”

“What?!” Inukai asked his eyes widening with realization, fear, and surprise. He marched up to his brother and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt glaring into his brother’s eyes. “Where did she go?!”

Seth frowned. “If you wish to know, she’s gone to where you came from.” Though, on the inside, he was smiling at the desperation that was within his brother’s voice and the fact that the half demon really did care for Nina rather he wanted to admit it or not.

Inukai let out a curse and called Seth something that caused him to raise an eyebrow. “And that would be?!”

“Where do you think it would be?” Seth asked his frown deepening.

Inukai let out a growl and brought a clawed hand in front of Seth’s face. “My patience is wearing thin, brother. I suggest you tell me before I kill you.”

“And if you kill me, you’ll lose the only person who knows where Nina is. Thus, making you lose the one that is dear to you,” Seth said smirking as Inukai let out a low growl and released him knowing he was right. “Now, as I was saying, she’s where we all came from.”

“And that would-wait a sec?! What do you care what I want or don’t want?! What are you up to?! If you tell where she went to, what’s that catch gonna be?!” Inukai said his eyes narrowing.

“The only catch is for you not to screw things up again,” Seth said his eyes also narrowing.

                                    Inukai grunted. “Whatever.”

Nina took her seat on the airplane next to a window. She sighed and looked out of it. I’m really leaving here for good. It’s so hard to believe. I’ve grown up here all my life and I’m turning my back on it all just to leave a certain boy behind. It’s so hard to believe. But I’ll be back in Japan. It’s not as good as the Feudal Era, but it’s good enough even if there might be more demons over there than here, but I’ll last. The airplane began lifting off. She began biting her lower lip. Am I sure I really want to leave this all behind? She nodded as she remembered once again what Inukai had told her. Yeah. I’m positive I want to leave. The airplane soon rose into the sky as the rain continued pouring making the clouds not look as beautiful as she’d have liked.

Inukai pushed passed the huge crowd that was waiting for their flights, tickets, and so on. He grunted. Who would’ve thought that so many demons and human slaves would be taking airplanes to leave despite the fact that many rarely took the airplane anymore causing them to lose business, but, of all days, why did it have to be this day that it had to get crowded?! Well, at least might be here if I’m lucky.

                                    “Sir, you can’t-”

“I’m Lord Inukai, son of Naraku,” Inukai said grabbing the passenger screener by the collar of his shirt. “And I suggest that if you don’t want to lose your head, you had better back off and let me through.”

The screener nodded and Inukai released him then began making his way through the crowd again.

Seth looked down at the human pitifully. “I suggest you stay out of Inukai’s, as well as mine, way.”

The human nodded again as Seth ran pass him to catch up with his younger brother. Inukai soon reached the area where the airplanes took off and saw an airplane reach the rainy clouds. His eyes widened when he realized that Nina’s scent came from that very plane. He jumped onto a plane that was taking off. Seth sighed and joined him not really sure why in the world he was helping his stubborn lovesick puppy of a brother. The plane soon was parallel with the one Nina was on. Inukai spotted Nina’s saddened eyes.

He felt his heart fill with pain and softly said, “Nina…” He then gathered up his courage and began shouting out Nina’s name hoping she’d hear him.

Nina let out another sigh as the rain hit against her window. She soon saw a plane fly parallel to the one she was on. She ignored it and half wished she was back in the garden outside of Naraku’s mansion kissing Inukai and half wishing she could have killed him right then and there for lying to her.

And that is why you are a violent little girl, the dark voice said.

Nina ignored it. She then heard someone shouting her name and realized it was coming from the other plane. How can that be? Her eyes widened when she saw who was shouting out her name. “Inukai…” Her eyes and his locked and she saw a desperation within him that she never saw before. She shook her head and turned her gaze away from him and grabbed out a magazine that was inside the back pocket of the seat in front of her. Just ignore him. Just ignore him. He’ll just disappear into thin air as long as I ignore him.

Inukai saw Nina’s airplane take a turn no longer parallel with his. He cursed as Nina’s disappeared into the clouds ahead. Now he would never see Nina again all because he had to say those cruel untruthful words to her. He sighed. “Goodbye, Nina.”

Nina watched as the airplane she was on leave Inukai’s behind. Her eyes filled with tears. Inukai, I’m so sorry. It’s better this way for the both of us. Sorry, Anna, Sharon, everyone.
