Otome Youkai Zakuro
The new season brings about a diverse selection of anime, including those with the usual premise and panty shots. However, if you're looking for something fun and refreshing, then check out Otome Yokai Zakuro. The series is based on the manga by Lily Hoshino. The anime adaptation is produced by Aniplex and directed by Chiaki Kon (When They Cry). After just the first episode, I knew that this was going to be my favorite show of the Fall 2010 Season. The bold colors and attractive character designs would draw anyone in.
The story takes place in an alternate universe during the Meiji period. During this Era, both humans and Yokai (but we'll call them spirits) co-exist. To keep peace among each, the Ministry of Spirit Affairs was set up. Three young soldiers are assigned to work together with this group. Each soldier and their assigned spirit(s) has their own unique personality including one particular soldier who's doing his best to hide his fear of spirits.
Among the spirits is half-human and half-yokai, Zakuro. She is intelligent, beautiful, tough, and a natural born leader. All together the group works to clear up any sticky situation. However, something evil is out there causing normally gentle spirits to go on rampages. Who or what is responsible, and what is their motive???
