Are you craving magic and mayhem? The 2008 Fall Season whips up a good dose of it in To Aru Majutsu no Index. Based on the light novels written by Kazuma Kamachi, this anime adaptation may well be considered one of the best of the Fall Season.
In a secret city not far from Tokyo, students with psychic and/or magical powers attend schools created to evaluate or enhance their abilities. One such student is Touma Kamijo, who is gifted with the unusual power called Imagine Breaker. This power negates all magic, psychic, or divine powers. Unfortunately, his power also negates any kind of luck he may have causing him nothing but constant misfortune.
One morning, he finds a young Nun from the Church of Necessary Evil hanging from his balcony. Seems she is being pursued, because her brain has been implanted with the 103,000 magical texts. Many of those texts are forbidden, and the church will do anything to prevent anyone from getting their hands on them. Touma takes it upon himself to help this young Nun and thus, his life changes forever.
