With the spirit of Yuki's help, Asuna gathers all her strength to fight Vassago. She asks him why he hates Kirito so much. To her surprise, he reveals that he doesn't hate him. "In the World of Scumbags, he's the only one I could believe in unconditionally," he says. (Oh geez... a fanboy...a very evil fanboy.) Vassago says he will wake him up no matter what it takes or how many he has to slaughter! For a moment it looked as if Asuna may have defeated Vassago, but he used his hateful powers to regenerate.
Meanwhile, on the Ocean Turtle, Higa needs another person to wake up Kirito. However, imagine all the bad experiences of your lifetime flooding your brain all at one time. That is what is happening to Kirito. The death and unhappiness that either he caused or blamed himself for is weighing heavily on him. Whether the guilt is warranted or not, the pain is so great that he is ready to rip his own heart out. These feelings are keeping him from coming back. Suddenly Eugeo appears before him and explains that he is the memory within Kirito's heart. With Eugeo, Asuna, Leafa, and Sinon beside him, Kirito feels that he can walk once again.
Returning to the Underworld, Asuna is about to be struck down when "Enhance Armament!" Vassago and the evil soldiers are frozen solid. Vassago is able to break free. Kirito arises and stops the devil man from striking Asuna. With tears and a smile she says, "Welcome back, Kirito." Kirito turns and grins, "I'm back, Asuna."
