It's been two months since Kirito defeated Heathcliff and beat the game. As soon as he got out, he traded information about SAO to the ministry of general affair's SAO Incident Task Force in return for Asuna's whereabouts. He quickly learned her location.

Including Asuna, about 300 players had yet to awake. People believe that the missing Kayaba Akihiko is behind it, but no one is sure. In addition, Kirito gets both shocking and depressing news when he visits Asuna in the hospital.

The next day, Kirito is contacted by an old friend, who thinks he knows where Asuna(her mind anyway) is.
