We pick up from the last episode where Todo has stabbed Tatsuma Suguro in the throat and left him for dead, and Juzo Shima races back to the Kyoto Field Office with Mamushi.
After Yukio finishes reading the letter, Shura gives Rin the Koma sword, but he can't seem to open it. Mephisto shows up. He says that there was a vote by the Vatican, and it was unanimous that Rin would be put to death for using his flame. He puts a strong door on the cell, and Rin is pulled into an area that looks like a steel junkyard.
Mephisto turns to Shura saying there is another priority. He gives her a stack of invisibility cloaks and the Koma sword saying to find a way to defeat the impure King. (This guy has got something up his sleeve. Just what is he plotting??) Without saying much, Yukio leaves to join the other exorcists and fight the Impure King.
Shura locates the other Exwires informing them of Rin's sentence and handing them the cloaks. The decision to save Rin is theirs. Shiemi picks up her cloak first, and to her surprise, Ryuji picks up his with no hesitation. The others follow suit albeit Renzo doesn't go so willingly since they'll be going against the church.
The Exwires enter the prison undetected. When they approach Rin's cell door, they find that anyone who poses a threat is frozen in their tracks. Only Shiemi doesn't pose a threat, and she easily enters. Inside, Rin is distraught. "Why did you save me, father?" he wonders. Shiemi approaches him saying that she is there to help him. Rin angrily tells her to get back. "I'm a monster," he says emitting blue flames. To Shiemi's surprise, the flames are warm. She sees that Rin is crying, and suddenly realizes that she hasn't been a good friend for not seeing things through his point of view. She hugs him telling him she is not afraid of him and everything will be alright.
Rin with Shiemi break through Mephisto's door. This unfreezes the others. Ryuji hands Rin the Koma sword telling him he was right about his dad and angrily yells at Rin for not considering him an ally.
Now that Rin is free, the Exwires head to the mountain to stop the Impure King.
