While Yukio fights Todo (as well as his inner demons) everyone is doing their part to survive or defeat the Impure King, a huge spore like infectious demon that can multiply at epic speed. Todo is doing his best to convince Yukio that he secretly hates his brother, but Yukio is not buying it despite the flashbacks that seem to indicate otherwise. After creating a water barrier around Todo, Yukio explains, "I love my brother, but I hate him too. But what I hate most was the weak, cowardly boy I use to be! The person I really hate is myself!"
Elsewhere, Rin and Ryuji (riding on Kuro) are looking for a safe spot by the sporangium. They find an area, and Ryuji is able to recite the incantation and create the barrier. Rin is keeping the spores away from Ryuji, but is still unable to draw his sword.
Meanwhile, Renzo and Konekomaru are battling the multiplying spores. Shima says they should run for it, and we learn from a flashback that his older brother was killed fighting demons. Konekomaru calls him a coward and refuses to run away. Shima turns to leave, but realizes that he just can't do it.
Not far from Renzo, Shiemi and Izumo are trying to get the injured Tatsuma Suguro to safety. Unfortunately, Izumo is suddenly engulfed in the Impure King's spores. A distraught Shiemi is finally able to summon Nee!
Returning to Yukio, Todo has managed to escape from his water barrier. Just as he is about to kill Yukio, the young boy's eyes begin to glow blue. It startles Todo enough that he jumps away from the boy. As he returns to finish the job, Juuzou and his crew arrive.
