Rin decides that he must learn the secret of their birth. He embarks on a journey 40 years into the past with Mephisto's guidance. Mephisto warns Rin that the story ends in tragedy, but the boy feels compelled to learn the truth of his and Yukio's birth.
Rin meets up with Mephisto in the past. He is taken to where his mother Yuri was raised in the slums within an abandoned factory. She is left to fend for herself after a terrible fire took the lives of three individuals were lovingly caring for her.
After the fire, Rin sees the fated meeting between his mother(Yuri) and Shiro, a test subject from Section 13.
