The powerful exorcist, Ernst Frederik Egin, has taken over as the leader of the True Cross Order. He claims to be Rin and Yukio's grandfather, and as such, makes a deal with Yukio, which includes making the boy Paladin. Yukio accepts the deal thinking that Rin can become human again.

Ernst's plan is to destroy Gehenna. To do that, all exorcists are given weapons that kill demons and drain their blood. When Yukio discovers that Rin will be used as a sacrifice in Ernst's twisted scheme, his own demonic powers awaken.
