Turns out that it was Agil that informed Kirito of the possible whereabouts of Asuna. The picture depicts a girl who looks a lot like Asuna trapped in a birdcage at the top level of the game, Alfheim Online.

Kirito is aprehensive about entering a new game after all that's happened, but he wants to save Asuna no matter what. Once in the game, he is able to contact Yui. It's cheating, but he kept all of his old skills as well.
