Sword Art Online is the brain child of the mega-talented Reki Kawahara. He began writing the novel in an attempt to win the coveted Dengeki Light Novel Award. However, once completed, it was way beyond the size limit for the competition. Instead of butchering his novel to fit the requirements, Reki placed the story on the internet. He received great feedback. Over the years he continued to add to the adventure, and the rest is history.
SYNOPSIS: The much awaited release of the VRMMORPG (see definitions in the "Other Info" link), Sword Art Online, had game enthusiasts waiting in long lines at their favorite retailers. Those who were able to get a copy considered themselves lucky to enter the game's beautiful virtual world...............until.........they learned that the only way out was to defeat the game or die! Even the beta testers did not see this coming. Who would have known that the Nerve Gear that accompanied the game had so much control over the human brain?
Kazuto Kirigaya (Kirito) had been one of the strongest beta testers for the game. His first instinct when the shocking announcement was made to all players was "this is some kind of joke." When reality set in, Kirito swore he would live, and promptly set forth to beat the game and save not only his life, but the lives of the other players as well!
