Armin awakes next to the severely injured Sasha. He doesn't remember anything past the time that Bertholdt became a Titan. Captain Levi tells Eren to fill him in.
A short time later, Captain Levi, Hange, Eren, and Mikasa head to the basement of Eren's home while Armin and the others are left to watch. As Eren and Mikasa venture through the crumbling streets where they grew up, memories fill their heads. Once they reach the area that was once Eren's home, they must clear debris to get to the entrance to the basement. Eren's key doesn't work on the outside door, but that doesn't stop Captain Levi, who easily kicks it down.
At first glance, the basement looks like your typical doctor's study. However, Mikasa notices a mysterious keyhole in the desk. The key opens a drawer with a hidden compartment. Inside are books. The first page of one book reveals a photograph. On the back, Dr. Jaeger has written, "I come from a place outside the walls where humanity lives in elegance. Humanity has not perished."
Back within the walls, the announcement is made that the Scouts are back and they have successfully taken back Wall Maria.
After the closing credits, a scene shows two children happily watching an airship. They are restricted to a certain area and must wear armbands. This is where the story begins.
Basement Key: Grisha Jaeger, having come from outside the walls and thus knowing many secrets, entrusted the basement key to his son. The basement will likely reveal the mysteries of the world which Grisha couldn't mention to anyone.
